12-year-old son of Broncos legend Darren Lockyer selected in Qld schoolboys side

The 12-year-old son of a Maroons and Broncos legend has shown the apple does not fall far from the tree following his selection in the Queensland School Sport (QRSS) 11-12 Years League Team.

The 12-year-old son of a Queensland Maroons and Brisbane Broncos legend has shown the apple does not fall far from the tree following his selection in the Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) 11-12 Years Rugby League Team.

Gregory Terrace Year 7 fullback Flynn, the second son of seven-time State of Origin series winner Darren, will follow in his famous father’s footsteps by donning a Queensland jersey of his own after an impressive showing at the Rugby League State Championships at Burleigh this week.

“He is just a competitor,” Gregory Terrace head of rugby Tyron Mandrusiak said.

“He loves to compete at everything. He just loves it.”

Met North selection Flynn is one of three Lockyer boys honing their craft at Gregory Terrace.

Older brother Sunny is in Year 9 and younger brother Hugo is in Year 5.

Last year, Flynn played as a fullback and flyhalf in the school’s 11As side, where he was “outstanding and “defensively strong” according to Mandrusiak.

This year, in the 12As, he will be coached by former Broncos winger and old boy of the school Lachlan Maranta as well as former Queensland Reds halfback Nick Frisby - a coaching team sure to get the best out of the emerging playmaker from the West Brisbane Panthers.
