TotalFusion plan for Graceville gym, wellness centre, day spa, cafe

Fresh from winning an epic court battle to open Australia’s biggest health centre at Morningside, Totalfusion has floated plans for a gym, wellness centre and day spa in a ritzy westside suburb.

Gym giant TotalFusion’s expansion drive shows no signs of abating, with plans for a major wellness centre, gym, community cafe, day spa and allied health services at Graceville.

It comes after TotalFusion opened Australia’s biggest wellness and health centre at Morningside earlier this year following a titanic court battle.

The high-profile case pitted richlister Balfour Irvine, owner of the Morningside Rivermakers site, against neighbour and cattle billionaire Trevor Lee.

TotalFusion now wants to expand into Brisbane’s westside at the site of an existing 24-hour, seven-day-a-week Goodlife gym at 164 Graceville Ave.

The site, which contains a large open-air carpark, also fronts Verney Rd East and Luke St.

No development application has yet been lodged, but TotalFusion said that would happen later this month.

Management was approached for comment.

The gym franchise has instead letterboxed neighbours, inviting them to a meeting tomorrow (Wednesday, March 8), on site, from 5.30-6.30pm.

Residents would be able to view plans and provide feedback at the community information session, an approach rarely taken by developers.

“The facility will provide a range of fitness, healthcare and wellness activities for the area,’’ the flyer said.

“The proposed wellness centre will replace the existing gym at the premises and will revitalise the site.

“The program includes a gym, allied healthcare services, day spa and community cafe.

“The proposal has been well informed by technical experts regarding acoustic, traffic, flooding and engineering matters to ensure minimal impact on the surrounding area and services.’’

Tennyson ward Councillor, Nicole Johnston, said she welcomed the community consultation and a development application that would rejuvenate the Graceville Ave shopping precinct. “Addressing traffic and flooding issues will be critical in planning for the future of this site,” Cr Johnston said.
