Brisbane mother Julie Nolan’s final act of kindness has allowed critically ill patients another chance at life.

The physiotherapist, Mt Alvernia College graduate and mother of four suffered a fatal stroke last weekend, but despite the shock, Julie’s family made the heartfelt decision to donate her organs.

Wife to David Nolan and mother to Oli, Xandi, Ellie and Zac, Julie was described by friend Nathan Barrell as a “singer, renovator, lover of friends and family, do-er of good deeds and excellent person”.

“The shock of Julie’s passing on those who love her cannot be over-estimated,” Mr Barrell said.

“Similarly, the heroic efforts of those who cared for her in her final days will not be forgotten.

“David and the children have ensured that Julie’s loss has not gone without the opportunity to do good.”

He said Julie’s organ donations of her lungs, liver and kidneys, would provide the gift of life to at least four people.

The donation of her heart valves and corneas would also be going to those in need, ensuring an unforgettable legacy and a ray of light in a dark time.

A GoFundMe has been set up by friends of the Nolan family for the The Julie Nolan Memorial Fun.

“At the same time David and the children are hopeful that greater good can come from this tragedy,” Mr Barrell said.

He said the fund — which has raised more than $10,000 in a day — would help the family contribute to stroke research and to support the purchase of equipment for the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

A funeral service will be held this weekend for close friends and family.
