Not withstanding the contributions of his fellow bowling group, Walter was simply too hot for opposition batsmen to handle.

Walter was rich in his praise of Clayton, a Brisbane Boys College old boy who still takes a keen interest in how his old school goes in GPS First XI cricket.

Walter said while Clayton was an “incredible talent’’, it was his “worth ethic and desire to improve’’ which was so impressive in someone so young.

“That along with his competitive nature. He always wants to win,’’ Walter said.

Clayton appeared for the QAS in the Toyota 2nd XI competition during the season which is a sign he is on the track toward Queensland Bulls’ selection.

Wests’ best players this season, spinner Paddy Dooley and fast bowler Blake Edwards, made the team of the year.

Western suburbs coach John Buchanan, the former Australian and Queensland Bulls mentor, praised both bowlers.

“Blake Edwards was outstanding right through the season. He grew in statue as a bowler,’’ Buchanan said.

“Paddy Dooley was really consistent with the ball across all formats and his leadership in the one-day arena was outstanding.’’

Dooley was also a handy lower order batsman.

Wynnum-Manly all-rounder Jason Floros and Sandgate-Redcliffe batter Tess Cooper were the respective players of the year, taking out the Peter Burge Medal and Kath Smith Medal respectively.
