Triple Olympian Bronwen Knox has anointed Queensland Thunder water polo rookie Charlize Andrews as a player of the future. “She is an amazing up-and-coming athlete who has such raw ability to just feel the game,’’ Knox said.

Triple Olympian Bronwen Knox has endorsed exciting water polo prospect Charlize Andrews as a player to lead the next generation for the Queensland Thunder.

Andrews, who is ironically a St Paul’s School alumni just like Knox, was a regular starter for the Thunder in the Australian Water Polo League this year.

“She is an amazing up-and-coming athlete who has such raw ability to just feel the game. That is something you can’t teach,’’ Knox said.

“Now we are just trying to reinforce the skills and how to bring her up to that next level.

“But naturally she just puts herself in really good scoring positions and you can’t teach people that.

“You can harness that, but you can’t teach them that.

“She is going to be one to watch in the future.

“She will have a great career.’’

Andrews, a resident of Aspley, was part of a youthful Thunder outfit which were ushered into the national league probably a year ahead of time.

But the group were outstanding in 2020. Indeed Thunder were bound for the semi-finals before their season was ended by the coronavirus crisis.

Spearheaded by Knox and Abby Andrews, the squad will continue to show the benefits of early exposure to elite water polo competition next season and beyond.
