THE St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace First XV’s charge this season is being spearheaded by four state schoolboy representatives.

Captain and open side flanker Will Roach is in the Australian schoolboys squad and is striving to make the 27 member touring squad bound for the UK.

Centre Dan Condon was the state schoolboys No. 1 reserve centre while winger Glen Vaihu was the Queensland No. 1 team winger.

Half Will Kirk represented the state schoolboys No. 2.

Their selection at both representative schoolboy level and for the First XV continue a proud rugby tradition at the college.

“It means a lot to be captain, to represent the team, the other boys at the school and all the old boys,’’ Roach said.

Kirk said he watched his brothers come through the school rugby system but it was not until he actually made the First XV himself did he grasp the magnitude of the achievement.

“I didn’t really know what it meant, but getting a Firsts’ jersey, it is an honour and a privilege,’’ Kirk said.

Condon said he was proud. “The school means a lot to me personally and the whole community as well and it is good to represent that each weekend.’’

Winger Vaihu added: “There are a lot of famous names. Coming here in grade eight, I was not aware of that.

“But now I am at the school I am loving the culture and everything to do with the team. It is a great experience.’’
