St Peters Western world champion Ariarne Titmus and her coach Dean Boxall scooped the pool at the 2019 Swimming Australia Awards’ night.

St Peters Western world champion Ariarne Titmus and her coach Dean Boxall scooped the pool at the 2019 Swimming Australia Awards’ night.

The teenage swimming sensation won the coveted Hancock Prospecting Olympic Program Swimmer of the Year, the Short Course Swimmer of the Year and the ‘Hancock Prospecting Patron Award.

“I did not think earlier in my career that I would be up there on stage collecting that award and being the short course swimmer of the year as well,’’ Titmus said.

Coach Boxall claimed the Hancock Prospecting Olympic Program Coach of the Year’ and the ‘Youth Coach of the Year.

The pair collected their awards in front of more than 190 guests at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

Titmus lit up the world stage in July when she chased down American superstar Katie Ledecky in the women’s 400m freestyle at the FINA World Championships.

The 19-year-old also walked away with a further three medals including a gold and world record in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay.

Earlier in the season at the 2018 FINA World Short Course Championships in China, the St Peters Lutheran College past student broke the world record on her way to victory in the 400m freestyle, while also setting a new Commonwealth record and capturing gold in the 200m freestyle.

The two awards for Boxall were reward for his extraordinary work at both senior and junior level.

He oversees the most powerful swimming club in Australia – junior or senior – and his success extends to both the AIC and QGSSSA school competitions where St Peters Lutheran College are the 2019 champions.

While the likes of Titmus, Clyde Lewis, Mitch Larkin and Jack Cartwright are senior Dolphin members, the next wave of Australian swim stars can be glimpsed at Boxall’s stable.

Across the club, 14 swimmers represented Australia in 2019 and others represented their native countries from the Indooroopilly-based club.

Earlier this year St Peters supplied four girls to the world junior swimming championship Australian team while New Zealand schoolboy Michael Pickett, who trains with St Peters, has positioned himself to make the New Zealand senior Olympic team next year.

Boxall was an apprentice under fellow Australian coach Michael Bohl at St Peters Western and has blossomed into one of the world’s leading coaches.
