St Peters Lutheran College year 11 student Michael Pickett will spearhead his school at next Monday’s AIC swimming carnival.
The New Zealand sprinter has been developing under the guidance of St Peters Western coach Dean Boxall.
Boxall believed Pickett was now a contender to represent his native New Zealand at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“I am really looking forward to this year,’’ Boxall said. “This is going to be an exciting 2019 for Michael Pickett and 2020 because he can make the Olympic team for New Zealand. It is an exciting time.’’

Boxall said Pickett was a speed demon who had a “great head on his shoulders’’. “He loves speed, he loves racing. He is just a good kid,’’ Boxall said.
“He is tracking where we want him to be. It does not mean he will make the (New Zealand) team, but he is on the track.’’

Boxall predicted Marist College Ashgrove and Iona College as a strong contender to challenge St Peters at the AIC meet.
“St Peters are potentially going for a three in a row. But they are going to have to fight really hard.’’
Boxall’s St Peter Lutheran College female contingent will compete on Wednesday afternoon in the QGSSSA carnival.
