“The Thursday night win over Balmain was a really, really good performance. It was a full team performance,’’ Lees praised.

“It was a really good road trip. We had three or four girls on their first round trip and they got exposed to touring and playing at this level.’’

New-comers included Stuartholme School pair Phoebe Leech and Molly Nasser from the all-conquering Mermaids’ under 16s, and Moreton Bay College product Alice Campbell.

In round one the previous weekend, Andrews sparked one of the great sporting comebacks when Thunder rallied from a 5-10 three quarter time deficit to win 11-10 against Sharks.

The left handed Andrews, a past student of Brisbane Girls Grammar, was the focal point of the attack during the comeback.

“She is not only physically talented, but has a wonderful attitude toward the sport,’’ Lees said.

“She is a left hander, very skilful and smart and has a wonderful selfless attitude.’’

Andrews, the baby of the Australian water polo team, was coming off a three Test series against world No. 1 and Olympic Games’ gold medal favourites USA.

This weekend Thunder host the Fremantle Marlins and Torpedoes at the Valley pool, Thursday through until Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Thunder men had a mixed bag, losing twice to Balmain but beating the Hunter.
