Mollie O’Callaghan finished fourth in the 100m backstroke overnight at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships being staged in Budapest.
On a night which saw Sunshine Coast product Lani Pallister win gold, O’Callaghan pushed hard for a place.
It was a mighty effort by the St Peters Lutheran College Springfield and Logan City prospect who entered the meet aiming for PBs and finals’ appearances.
O’Callaghan’s team mates at St Peters Western, Michaela Ryan and Meg Harris, also finished fourth as part of the mixed relay 4x100m squad. Other team members were Joshua Yong and Joshua Edwards-Smith.

Newmarket Racers rookie Elizabeth Dekkers gained tremendous experience to place fifth in the 200m butterfly.
Dekkers, a year 10 student at All Hallows’ School, is the baby of the squad.
First night silver medallist Thomas Neill from Rackley Centenary was sixth in the 200m freestyle.
It was another valuable race experience for the St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace student.
