Queensland country kids from Dalby to Cairns, Ipswich to Rockhampton dominated our round 6 Meninga Cup Team of the Week.

Queensland country kids from Dalby to Cairns, Ipswich to Rockhampton dominated our round 6 Meninga Cup Team of the Week.

Wide Bay halve Mitchell Sly and Northern Pride hooker Tait Coglan were among those chosen in the side.

Both boys were part of beaten teams, but their efforts did not go unnoticed.

Competition was intense as always across all positions.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Fullback: Tyler Peckham-Harris (Ipswich)

In a tough win by his side, Peckham-Harris played tough, taking hard runs off his line and winning the ruck. He just had to make the team for his bravery and effort, more than for any Flash Dan football.

Winger: Brayden Falvey (Clydesdales)

The flying Dalby Devils junior was a popular man of the match winner after his team’s win over a hard working Wide Bay Bulls.

Centre: Poutoa Hotere-Papalii (Norths)

In a high scoring game Hotere-Papalii ironically makes the team for his strong defence.

Centre: Tuvaka Palu (Wynnum)

Palu hit the target for the Seagulls with an excellent performance in Wynnum’s drawn clash against the Tigers.

Five-eight: Mitchell Sly (Wide Bay)

Sly had his best match of the season for Wide Bay. With his centres Liam Doolan and Lucas Kemble back and giving stability, Sly found his feet.

Halfback: Tana Martin (Capras)

Cathedral College product Martin and his halves partner Callan Campbell were outstanding for the Capras in another rousing win.

No. 13:Damon Marshall (Blackhawks)

In hot, trying conditions against an improving Mackay Cutters, the Blackhawks were under the hammer. But through it all Marshall was again Mr Consistent.

Second row: Bailey Cavanough (Capras)

We just had to get this bloke into our starting side this week. He has been circling the top team all season and although he is a No.13, we named him on the edge just to give him a deserved start.

Second row: Jacob Taulani (Redcliffe)

Taulani had a big match for the Dolphins. He is a right edge forward but can run the tough lines and also find a big hit in him.

Prop: Saxon Day (Sunshine Coast)

Day played 70 minutes in the Ipswich summer heat to try and give the SC Falcons an advantage over the Jets.

ROUND 4 TEAM OF THE WEEK

IN PICTURES – IPSWICH JETS MENINGA CUP

Hooker: Tait Coglan (Northern Pride)

After going from hooker to fullback the week earlier, Coglan went back from fullback to hooker where he played the 70 minutes with a busted shoulder. Now that is real Team of the Week material.

Another Team of the Week performances by the explosive, skilful Pahulu whose game is trending up in 2022.

RESERVES

Reico Ratana (Tweed)

Ratana was an automatic inclusion after his big effort for the Seagulls.

Eli Tuli (Tweed)

The Marsden SHS alumni with heaps of potential had his best game of the season for Tweed.

Jeremy Trappett (Wynnum Manly)

The Newcastle Knights-signed Trappett makes another of our Team’s of the Week after his display for Wynnum Manly.

Brady Hazeldine (Cutters)

In an improved Cutters side, Hazeldine was outstanding at the back after his forwards, spearheaded by Watts and McCowan, started breaking even with the Blackhawks pack.

Chase Paterson (Sunshine Coast)

An increasingly impressive back row forward was again a four and a half star performer for the Falcons.

Murray sparked the Devils from dummy half despite his team being off the pace for once this season.

Bryden Blair (Wide Bay)

Blair did a great job playing on the wing given he is normally a halfback.

Darcy Carswell (Clydesdales)

Yet again Carswell rolled his sleeves up and got the job done for his side.
