Maddie and Jacinta Edmunds will be rowing for Australia at the 2018 World Rowing Championships

The Edmunds sisters Maddie and Jacinta will be rowing for Australia this week at the 2018 World Rowing Championships being staged in Bulgaria.

The championships will held across the week, with Maddie in the single scull and Jacinta in the eights.

Maddie is a Rio Olympian who has been on the Australian senior team since 2013.

But for her sister Jacinta, 2018 has been her break through season, winning a place in World Cup Australian teams and now the World Championships. Her previous career highlight was being a member of the winning Cal Berkeley team.

The girls from Payne Road State School and St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School, follow in the footsteps of their father, Ian,both an Olympic and world championship bronze medallist.

Ian said his wife and himself were proud of their daughters.

“My wife Jenny and I are in Europe currently, heading to Bulgaria for the Edmunds family reunion and the World Rowing Championships,” he said.

“We are looking forward to seeing the best rowers in the world competing, supporting the entire Aussie team and most significantly being there with our girls.”

They are both Commercial Rowing Club juniors.

Other Brisbane-based rowers at the championships are Hamish Parry (Toowong Rowing Club, lightweight single scull, Amy James (Toowong Rowing Club, lightweight women’s double scull and Caitlin Cronin (UQ Boat Club, women’s quad scull.
