Harris secured selection after playing her role in a fantastic Queensland performance at the recent national titles.
“We had a good culture on and off the field which helped us play well together,’’ Harris said.
Harris had set her sights on securing national under 21 selection after making the squad in 2019.
She said selection was arguably the biggest moment in her career. “It is the next level from the 18s to 21s which I was aiming for.’’ Harris said.
Renowned athletics coach Jayden Russ was now a wildcard in helping Ruby Harris prepare for the series.
Aside from training each Tuesday and Thursday with the Queensland hockey squad, Harris does private sessions with Russ of a weekend.
“He is a big part of my fitness. He is really helping me with strength and conditioning targeted on my hockey.’’ Harris said.
University of Queensland goalkeeper Hannah Astbury, the hero of the Brisbane Blaze’s thrilling Hockey One interstate victory in November, is also in the squad.
Although Harris did not play in the finals, the teenager was a squad member who scored in three successive matches for the Blaze which proved a fantastic experience.
