Indoor entertainment giant Timezone has announced its 52nd Australian outlet will open today at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre in Brisbane’s inner west.
It comes after top-line clothing retailer Aje Athletica opened at the centre in April, as well as a massive Eagers-owned Automall West — a new trend in car sales where customers can browse for a new car, get their existing car serviced and buy groceries under the same roof.
In other exciting news for ISC customers, up-market French patisserie franchise Le Bon Choix will open in coming months, as will luggage outlet Pera.
It also comes after revelations that Commonwealth Super Corporation has put its half stake in the centre up for sale, with offers over $600 million expected.
Timezone, owned by The Entertainment and Education Company, opened this morning adjacent to the Foodcourt, just in time for the start of the school holidays.
“We’re very excited to welcome Timezone to the centre,’’ ISC centre general manager, Steven Ihm, said.
“Timezone, along with retailers like Automall West and Aje Athletica, have been great additions to our retail offering.
“I’m looking forward to announcing some other big names coming to the centre soon.
“For now, our next big news is valet parking, launching on Monday July 4.”
The huge 1700 sqm Timezone space features cutting-edge games entertainment including seven short-lane bowling lanes, a Spin Zone with seven bumper cars, Laser Tag arena suitable for up to 24 players, more than 100 arcade games and party rooms
“Watching families bond over a game of bowling, couples competing in dance-offs, friends celebrating a special event… it’s a privilege to be part of those experiences,’’ Timezone and Zone Bowling Australia general manager Kane Fong said.
Customers who download the Timezone Fun App ahead of entering the store will get a $10 game credit on sign up, plus the latest deals.
ISC has been evolving its fashion offerings in recent times, with Australian designers such as Gorman and Dangerfield moving to larger store spaces within the centre.
There have also been key functional improvements, with eight new escalators installed in the past 18 months to allow customers to better move between levels.
The food offerings have also been revamped in recent years, with Aldi joining in 2019, as well as several Asian food retailers. In August last year Cinnabon opened its fourth store at ISC.
The Timezone announcement is welcome news after locals flooded social media recently to complain about long delays exiting, on some days, due to works at Indooroopilly roundabout.
However, lane closures were expected to end earlier than expected after Council started night works to speed up the project.
The new buzz at the centre is a far cry from August last year when the “Indooroopilly cluster’’ Covid lockdown turned ISC into a ghost town.
A month later, local Facebook groups were abuzz with stories of shoppers being robbed or assaulted as they left the centre by gangs of “eshays’’ — young crims wearing distinctive designer sports gear.
Indooroopilly police said they had a strategy to tackle the groups, however.
The centre has gradually climbed out of the rut facing shopfront retailers since the rise of online sales, with a low point reached in 2017 when 30 retailers left in eight months.
Glitches with paid parking, introduced in 2015, also were a bugbear but were eventually ironed out.
