RESIDENTS in Ipswich and Springfield want more information on the National Broadband Network. Some say there is no choice for internet access in their suburbs.

RESIDENTS in parts of Ipswich and Springfield are demanding more information about the National Broadband Network (NBN) despite last week’s announcement that the first 4000 homes and businesses in parts of Ipswich and Petrie were to experience the benefits.

The rollout means residents in the area can make the switch before most existing landline phone and internet services are replaced by services over the NBN.

Construction is underway to homes and businesses in the region including parts of West Ipswich, Coalfalls and Woodend. An NBN spokesman said: “The goal of the NBN is to provide access to fast, affordable and reliable broadband to Australians — including families and business owners in Ipswich and surrounding suburbs”.

“There are around 9500 homes and businesses in the Ipswich region who can now order services over the NBN,” he said.

“This continues the momentum of the NBN rollout in Queensland with over 41,800 home and business owners already connected to the network.”

But residents in Springfield want an exact timeline as to the rollout in areas such as Springfield Lakes

The spokesman said they would inform the community and update the rollout map on the NBN Co website.

“The current online maps are an accurate picture of the rollout as it stands today rather than a forecast of when communities might possibly receive it,” he said.
