TOOWONG Sizzler will shut down its salad bar for the last time on Sunday night.
In a sign posted on the front door, the restaurant thanked customers for their patronage over the last 30 years, stating: “Unfortunately our Sizzler Toowong restaurant will close after trade on Sunday 6th November 2016”.
It encouraged diners to visit remaining Sizzler outlets at Brookside and Annerley.
A customer who had dined there every day for years approached Westside News at Sizzler last week.
“It’s very sad. It’s fantastic value,” he said, but didn’t want to be identified.
A spokeswoman for Collins Foods Limited said it would not renew its lease at the Toowong site. The company said the decision was not made lightly.
“We recognise that all employees and management at Sizzler Toowong have worked very hard to make this restaurant a great place for our customers,” she said.
Around 45 staff are employed at the chain and have been offered the opportunity to apply for positions either with other Sizzlers or other Collins Foods Limited operated restaurants.
They also offered employees a workshop to assist with resume writing, job search and interview preparation.
