A police beat will be immediately set up at Toowong Village shopping centre if the LNP is elected on October 31.
Shadow Police Minister Dan Purdie and LNP candidate for the Indooroopilly-based seat of Maiwar, Lauren Day, announced the police beat this morning.
It comes after Mrs Day recently launched a petition recently for the initiative to help combat crime and public nuisance problems at the Atira student highrise in Glen St.
The State Government moved 300 at-risk people into the building in April, to protect them from COVID-19, without informing the LNP councillor, Greens state MP or residents.
A police crime map tabled in Parliament by Moggill LNP MP, Dr Christian Rowan, revealed a 420 per cent increase in crime in the suburb since April.
“This is good news for the people of Toowong because the community will be safer,” Mr Purdie said.
“It will also free up the police based at Indooroopilly Police station, meaning the entire electorate will benefit.”
The new police beat is on top of you the LNP’s commitment to recruit an extra 170 police for Brisbane and establish new taskforces to crackdown on gang violence and car jackings.

Ms Day said she was listening to “mums and dads’’ by prioritising community safety.
“For many months I have spoken to locals about crime and community safety concerns,” she said.
“The worrying rise in crime isn’t good enough. Just last week, locals told me about break and enters in Toowong and the need for more police.”
The police beat will be located at Toowong Village shopping centre on the second level.
The shopping centre has offered a free shopfront until January, when the Atira lease expires.
But the police beat would remain permanently in Toowong.
“As a mother of two children, and the wife of a police officer, I will always prioritise the safety of families,’’ Ms Day said.
