Your ultimate weather guide from Quest and Monash University

FROM droughts to flooding rains, the southeast can see it all in a matter of days.

The weather is always a hot topic of conversation and Queenslander are keen to know what’s on the horizon in their community.

To keep you informed about your local changing weather patterns, Quest Community News has teamed up with Monash University and Dr Christa Pudmenzky for a weekly column about the region’s local weather and climate.

This new column sources data from several weather stations across the southeast corner, to provide forecasts, graphics and long term temperature and rainfall information.

It also features residents discussing their experiences of how weather and climate influence life and work.

Each week, doctors, emergency service workers, business owners and residents contribute their unique perspectives.

Christa Pudmenzky is a climate scientist and research fellow at the Centre for Applied Sciences at the University of Southern Queensland.

Dr Pudmenzky said weather information was important to help people better prepare at home, in industry and in agriculture.

“Brisbane’s climate is quite interesting, the further inland you go you get higher temperature fluctuations compared to the coastline,’’ she said.

“We get extreme temperatures in summer, but we also get these thunderstorms which come through and cause a lot of damage and flooding.”

Dr Pudmenzky has called Brisbane home for 38 years and understands how important it is to be prepared for extreme weather.

The column will be released on Thursdays, starting next week.

Dr Christa Pudmenzky is a climate scientist at the University of Southern Queensland.

This column is part of a collaboration between Monash University and News to deliver hyperlocal weather and climate information.
