The identity of a young man who died in a tragic car crash at Durack earlier this month has been identified as a 19-year-old international student from India.

Sehajpreet Singh arrived in Brisbane only three months ago to begin studying.

His family said they were devastated by the news and were fundraising to repatriate his body back home to Amritsar in northwest India.

Mr Singh was travelling along Inala Ave before his car and a truck collided head-on with a truck on May 21 at 1.30pm.

A police spokesman said Mr Singh’s car caught on fire.

He was declared deceased at the scene.

Friend Damanpreet Singh said Mr Singh moved to Australia to create his own future.

“This is such an unfortunate tragedy,” Mr Singh said.

“How terrible for his parents. We are needing urgent help to return him to his parents in India, please help.’’

The police spokesman urged witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact them.

The Forensic Crash Unit was continuing its investigations.
