Dog surrendered to rescue now healthy enough to be re-homed

This poor dog was skin and bone when he was surrendered to a southeast Queensland animal rescue earlier this year. Now he’s looking for a loving new owner – and you won’t believe how much he’s changed. SEE THE PICTURES

A DOG who was surrendered from a property at Chinchilla earlier this year is now looking for his forever home.

Founder of Kitt Kat Care Mika Dargie said Duke and his brother Fergus were surrendered into the care of her rescue in April, and have been recovering well with foster carers.

“Our rescue saved him and his brother and we’ve given them a new start,” Ms Dargie said.

“When we got Duke to our vet in Brisbane, he was barely alive. He was so thin and dehydrated, his heart was barely pumping enough to keep him upright,” she said.

“Our foster carers have worked so hard to fatten them up safely. Fergus has been adopted but Duke hasn’t yet.”

Ms Dargie said Duke now needs to find a permanent home.

“We are looking for a new home with no cats or male dogs and someone who will treat him like a child and give him the life he deserves,” she said.

She said Duke is great with people and female dogs.

She said he will dominate a male dog so would be best placed in a home with no other male dogs or small animals - but he loves humans.

“He will snuggle you on the sofa and just wants to be loved after his traumatic past. If you can open your home to him until we find his forever home, we would be so grateful.”
