A MAVERICK councillor has been thrown out of the council meeting for asking the Brisbane City Council chair if he thought she was “the f***ing fairy at the bottom of the garden”.
As she walked out, independent Cr Nicole Johnston (Tennyson) told the LNP controlled council she would “see you in court, again”.
Brisbane City Councillors told to stop swearing
Decision to fine Nicole Johnston more than $6000 declared void
Cr Nicole Johnston had interrupted Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner as he answered a Labor question on whether he would be leading the Brisbane Pride Festival March.
Cr Schrinner voted against a motion in 2016 for Brisbane City Council to support marriage equality.
Cr Schrinner said the leader of the opposition had asked the question to be divisive and he had seen the same “filth and grime” when he was sworn in as Lord Mayor in April.
Cr Johnston objected to the Lord Mayor calling opposition councillors, including herself, filth and Cr Wines told her she was “not an opposition councillor”.
“What am I, the f***ing fairy at the bottom of the garden,” Cr Johnston said into her microphone.
Newly sworn in council chair Andrew Wines warned councillors to stop swearing in August.
He reminded her of that and told her she was suspended from the chamber.
Cr Johnston said Cr Wines had “absolutely every right” to take action against her swearing but had not followed the right process to throw her out.
She warned the Brisbane City Council they had already lost a legal battle with her in May and that she would take them to court again.
Cr Johnston’s suspension was not rescinded and as she left, called out: “see you in court, again”.
Cr Schrinner later clarified that he said opposition was “peddling filth”, not that they were filth.
