RESIDENTIAL developer Stockland has purchased an almost 30ha site pre-approved for a controversial development.
Springview Estate, off Sharpless Ave and Mur Blvd at Springfield west of Brisbane, was zoned residential and included existing approval for 406 houses and 10ha of conservation land.
The developer paid $21 million for the site which included pre-emptive buying rights over an additional 136ha.
Last month, Springfield News published the concerns of affected residents who opposed the Ipswich City Council approved development.
They lobbied against the “sardine city” development when it was first proposed in 2015 by land owner Cherish Enterprise.
They said the destruction of the O’Dwyers Gully, which would be filled, and the removal of a water basin put their homes at risk of flooding.
An Ipswich City Council spokesman said the developer “suitably demonstrated” there would be no worsening of floods levels and flows in the area.
Stockland’s CEO of residential communities Andrew Whitson said he looked forward to working with Ipswich City Council and the local community on the next steps, with the proposed development planned to start first sales and settlements from 2019.
