Brisbane truckie jailed for molesting, raping his two granddaughters

An ice-addicted Brisbane truckie molested his granddaughters 15 years after also abusing his daughter, a court has heard. WARNING: Graphic content.

An ice-addicted Brisbane truckie depressed at losing his job turned his sick attention on his two young granddaughters, repeatedly masturbating in front of them, rubbing their vaginas and digitally raping one.

The two girls, cousins, were aged eight/nine and nine at the time of the offending.

His disgraceful actions came some 15 years after he was previously convicted and jailed for molesting his biological daughter, who was the mother of one of his victims, Brisbane District Court heard on Friday.

The southwest Brisbane man in his fifties, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victims, pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent treatment of a child under the age of 12, who was a lineal descendant, and one count of rape.

The court heard the six offences occurred between January 1, 2018 and October 11, 2019, at three residences in Brisbane southwest.

On the first occasion, the man exposed his penis and masturbated in front of the granddaughter who was aged eight at the time.

He also rubbed her vagina outside her clothing.

The court heard the offending only stopped when he was disturbed by another granddaughter.

On the second occasion, the defendant “repeatedly” exposed his penis and masturbated in front of his elder granddaughter, aged nine at the time.

On the final occasion, the man again targeted the younger girl, who by this time had turned nine.

Crown prosecutor Toby Corsbie told the court the young girl “did not want to be alone with the defendant by this stage” and begged another cousin to be in the room with her.

However, the defendant threatened her by saying she would not be able to see her cousin again, then molested her and digitally raped her when the two were alone.

This offending only ceased when the girl’s mother returned home.

A complaint was made and the man was arrested, spending three days in pre-sentence custody before being granted bail.

However, after breaching those conditions, he was remanded in custody on September 15 last year and has spent the intervening period, some 237 days, in pre-sentence custody.

Shockingly, the court heard this wasn’t the first time the man had abused his family – in the Ipswich District Court in 2008, he pleaded guilty to indecently treating his daughter between 2005–07, when she was aged 14–15, by touching her thigh and rubbing her vagina.

On that occasion, he was required to serve three months of a nine-month sentence in custody, with the remainder suspended.

The court heard the family buried the hatchet after the 2005–07 offending, but that the current offences had placed “strain” on the relationship with his wife, whom he has been with since the 1990s.

The pair were not on speaking terms currently, but she was present in court to support her husband.

Judge Nicole Kefford sentenced the man to four-and-a-half years’ imprisonment, with parole eligibility at the one-third mark, March 12, 2022.
