A burly bodybuilder turned businessman has faced the Supreme Court after being caught with 80g of steroids.

Australia's Court System

A personal trainer turned businessman caught with a huge stash of steroids will not spend time behind bars after convincing a court he was “turning his life around”.

Eugene Francis Bradshaw, 29, appeared in Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday where he was sentenced to two years’ jail with immediate parole after pleading guilty to supplying and possessing dangerous drugs.

Prosecutor Michael Gawrych told the court that Queensland Police found 80g of steroids and a small amount of cocaine when they executed a search warrant at Bradshaw’s Middle Park unit.

The bodybuilder was on bail after he was found in possession of 8.5g of steroids and 1.24g of pure cocaine when a car he was a passenger in was stopped in August 2019.

WhatsApp messages on his phone revealed he had also sold $350 worth of cocaine to one buyer.

The court heard Bradshaw was only three subjects away from completing a Masters in physiotherapy when he “fell into bad company” and began taking drugs and partying five days a week at the Gold Coast.

It was in that background that he had racked up convictions for common assault and assault occasioning bodily harm in 2017 and 2018.

Barrister James Veivers told the court that since his latest string of offending, Bradshaw had “made great strides with his rehabilitation”.

Mr Veivers said his client had opened a new business, Bumble Bee Car Care, in April last year and was well supported by his parents, from Warwick, and new partner.

Justice Peter Flanagan said drugs have had a “considerable” effect on Bradshaw’s life, but he was clearly “on his way to being drug free”.

“Since these offences you have really desired to turn your life around and not come before this court again,” Justice Flanagan said.
