Ashgrove culinary landmark the Golden Crown Seafood Restaurant, immortalised in the latest series of hit animated ABC TV show Bluey, will close next week after four decades.

The Waterworks Rd Chinese restaurant is currently owned by Cathy Chong, but was the place to go in Ashgrove and The Gap for many years before she took over the woks and deep fryers.

Famous for its hot towels at the end of dine-in meals and, at one point, for its karaoke, it served thousands of locals — many of them well known including disgraced former Police Commissioner Terry Lewis.

Bluey creator Joe Brumm, a westside resident whose children attend school in the area, and his team included the Golden Crown in the third season of the show, launched last month.

Dad takes the kids for a $5 lunch special (in real life they cost a bit more) and is served by the character Takeaway Lady, drawn as a Siberian Husky.

Bluey production company Ludo Studio, in Fortitude Valley, was approached for comment.

Westside News dropped in on Ms Chong this week after news broke that she was finally closing the doors, but she said she was too busy with a deluge of orders to speak.

Many locals have taken the chance for one last special fried rice or sweet and sour pork, increasing her already heavy workload.

It is believed she just wanted a break.

Westsiders took to Facebook to share their memories.
