COUNCILLOR Peter Cumming has started a petition opposing a plan to upgrade the Wynnum Community Centre parking lot saying the plans will rob residents of much-needed parks.
Brisbane City Council plans to spend $369,000 to formalise the carpark on the Charlotte St side of the community centre to include 31 car parks.

“The new car park will be in a more convenient location and also provide a disability parking space,” a council spokesman said.
But opposition leader Mr Cumming said the plan would mean a massive reduction of spaces in the parking lot, that can currently accommodate at least 80 cars.
He wants the upgrade scrapped, or at least redesigned to accommodate more cars, saying the current plan would be a “disaster” in the long term.
“Wynnum Central is now generally considered to have a chronic shortage of carparks,” he said.
“The situation will only get worse once the cinemas are open and the eight-storey apartment buildings that have been approved are built.”
The development application for the upgrade was originally lodged in 2017, but funds have only just been allocated to the plan in the 2019-20 Brisbane City Council Budget.
