Works on the Wynnum Cinema development has started

Works on one of the most significant developments in the history of Brisbane’s bayside has started, marking an important moment for the area.

THE developer of the long-awaited Wynnum Cinema believes the start of works marks a new era for the CBD.

Construction started on the development last week with completion expected in 18 months.

Justin Ham from Berrima Develop Pty Ltd said it was a huge relief to see construction underway.

“I think it’s a bit of a symbol for the area really, people voiced their opinions on a need for a cinema and for development and it’s now happening,” he said.

“It’s a great sign for a community, especially Wynnum, that residents campaign for something like this and it actually happens.

“We’re very happy to be part of it all and bring this to the bayside and works starting just marks another milestone.”

Mr Ham acknowledged there has been delays with the start of construction but urged residents to stay patient.

“It’s definitely happening now,” he said.

“We’ve done all the grunt work, now it’s time for it all to get going.

“Digging will start later this week and take four to six months. It’s also great for employment in the area, at peak we will have around 200 workers here.

“We are very excited to get this underway.”

Labor city councillor for Wynnum Manly Peter Cumming said it was great to see construction starting and echoed Mr Ham’s comments about residents staying patient.

“It’s been a long time coming,” he said.

“It’s a big development for the area.”
