Police investigating the alleged killing of a man and woman at a home south of Brisbane have recovered CCTV from the area.
A woman aged in her 40s and a man in his 20s found dead in a Stretton home were killed in a “frenzied attack”, police have alleged.
A 49-year-old man is currently assisting officers with their investigations. No charges have been laid.
Police were called to Coolidge Court in Stretton about 9.40am Monday, where the bodies of the man and woman were found inside a house.
A major crime scene has been established and investigations are under way to identify the deceased.
After combing through properties and talking to residents on Coolidge Court, detectives have recovered CCTV which could aid their investigation. They said the footage was taken from a neighbouring property.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham earlier said police arrived at the Stretton home after a call to Triple-0, allegedly from the man who is now in custody.
He said when police arrived, the man unlocked the front door and let them inside.
“He was seen to be suffering some injuries to his arms and legs,” Det Supt Massingham said.
He said the scene was “quite traumatic” and a large amount of blood was on the stairs.
He said police went up the stairs and found the body of a woman aged in her 40s and a man in his early 20s.
“The scene was confronting and has been described as a frenzied attack on the two deceased persons,” Det Supt Massingham said.
The officers found two bladed weapons at the scene which they believe were used in the attack.
Det Supt Massingham said there was “not much conversation” between the man, aged 49, and the police who arrived on scene.
He said a Cantonese interpreter was used to communicate with him when he called Triple-0.
“They rendered immediate first aid to him and a short time later (he) was taken into police custody,” he said.
“He was transported to a hospital within Brisbane where he currently remains.
“He is receiving treatment for those injuries and very shortly will be subject to a forensic procedure order undertaken by us in relation to forensic samples that we are seeking.”
The man has cuts to his arms and lower legs.
“We do seek community support and information here today with respect to the movements of any person in or around this residence before 9.45am this morning or any dashcam or any other CCTV video that people think may be relevant to our investigations here today,” Det Supt Massingham said.
He said the man’s call to Triple-0 involved him requesting assistance for his injuries but he said the remainder of what he said still needed to be “transcribed and interpreted”.
He said the man was not answering questions and had requested legal representation.
“The scene is quite traumatic in terms of a large amount of blood that is present,” Det Supt Massingham said.
“Their relationship (between the man and the couple) is yet to be fully established.
“We do believe the 49-year-old male has a link to this address (but) as to whether the two persons that are victims are linked and in which way, we are still investigating that aspect of it.”
The cul-de-sac remained cordoned off and there was a heavy police presence Monday afternoon.
It comes as people were seen breaking down in tears at the scene.
Forensic officers have been seen entering the property, which neighbours say was home to “lovely people who mainly kept to themselves”.
A neighbour told The Courier-Mail that three people – a man, woman and boy aged 18 or 19 – lived at the house.
He said the area was normally “peaceful” and he had not seen or heard anything in the lead-up to Monday’s incident.
“Recently I haven’t seen them too much but normally they are out in the yard,” he said.
“I think the boy just got his licence not that long ago
“You don’t think this kind of thing will happen around you but obviously it has.”
Another neighbour said the couple had lived at the home for a couple of years but kept to themselves.
“Sometimes you see the guy outside mowing the lawn but that is really it,” the woman said.
“They sometimes had visitors – maybe three or four people – but I don’t know if they were friends or relatives.
“We had never spoken to them.”
The woman said she had not heard any kind of disturbance until emergency services arrived this morning.
Another man, who regularly stayed in Coolidge Court, said he and other occupants of a nearby house had heard a dog constantly barking Sunday night.
“In the morning it was very quiet until the police got here, the only thing we could recall was a dog barking and going crazy last night before the other dogs on the street started barking too,” he said.
“I have never heard any real noise or anything from that end of the street, it’s usually very quiet so it’s very scary and shocking.”
Another woman, who has lived at Coolidge Court for almost 35 years, said several unrelated “scary” things had happened in the area recently.
“There was a shooting a couple of streets over a few weeks ago and now this, it’s pretty scary,” she alleged.
“I can’t remember anything happening here, apart from a few break-ins, for more than 30 years.
“I still feel very safe though, it’s a nice neighbourhood, everyone is nice to each other and everything.
“It’s really just scary to hear that people have died here.”
A Queensland Police Services spokesman confirmed a man was assisting officers with their inquiries.
