Winding up application for flood-hit landmark South Brisbane pub
Only a few years ago it was a hugely popular place to head out for drinks. But after the February floods devastated its basement, a winding up application has been lodged for a company associated with this inner-city pub.

A winding up application has been lodged for a company associated with the landmark The Fox hotel in South Brisbane, after it battled huge damage to its basement in the February floods.
Before Covid hit the heritage-listed venue, lavishly renovated in recent years, was the place to go for 21st birthday events, Valentine’s Day and other occasions.
But the four petitioning creditors, formerly trading as Choices Tamworth, lodged a winding up application for MLV Group Pty Ltd (formerly trading as the Terminus Hotel, the original name of the pub).
A directions hearing was scheduled for October 20.
Celtic Legal, the solicitors appointed to handle the application, were contacted for comment.
The Fox phone number was not working and its Facebook page said it was “temporarily closed’’.
A large amount of work has been going on recently, neighbours said, which they hoped meant the venue would reopen.
Management have not posted on its Instagram page since February and nobody has tagged it since then.
There have been no posts on its Facebook page for six months.
In March, management posted that it was struggling to reopen after severe flood damage.
“Hey Foxies, we hope you have all been well and getting back up on your feet after these floods. Unfortunately we have not been so lucky,’’ they posted.
“Our basement was completely ruined by the rain and rising storm waters, meaning we need to do a full replace and refit as this is where all our electricals lived.
“This will take time — and more time than we anticipated to get back up and running.
“Some renovations are going to take place over the next couple of weeks, so that we can bring The Fox back to the venue we all know and love.’’
The pub was built in 1927 on the site of an earlier pub and originally was known as the Terminus hotel.
It boomed in the days when Brisbane had trams, as it was adjacent to the former Melbourne St tramline.
It also picked up a lot of business when there was a Greyhound Bus terminus next to it on Melbourne St.
After a slump, the leasehold was bought by Colonial Leisure Group in 2016, which announced at the time that it would refurbish the rooftop bar, gaming room and other spaces.
