Immortal Images in Manly West has been crowned the best tattoo artist in Wynnum.

The Wynnum Herald called on the public to find your pick for the best tattoo artist in Wynnum, and there was one artist you told us who stood head and shoulders above the competition.

Tattooist Chris Heymer started his career in ink at Immortal Images in 1994 before eventually taking over the business from his mentor Don Johnson in 2001.

“I started in commercial art then got into tattooing and Don wanted to open a new shop so I ended up buying the place from him from there,” he said.

“I’ve been here in Wynnum pretty much my whole life.

“My parents grew up here and my grandparents were all here in Wynnum.

“I’ve watched a lot of young people here grow up, I’ve even tattooed grandkids of some of my first clients.”

Chris said the tattoo industry had shifted since he first started out.

“There’s definitely a lot of artists around these days,” he said.

“The styles and equipment has a changed a bit but I’ve still got a wide variety of customers, 50 per cent of my customers are female now.”

He said he was chuffed to be voted Wynnum’s best tattoo artist.

“It’s good to hear that my works pleases people,” he said.

“It’s a good feeling.”
