THE derelict Salvin Park nursing home has finally been levelled with one building facing Creek Rd left awaiting demolition.

Owners of the neglected site TriCare have until May 1 to complete demolition works.

It took three major fires and repeated graffiti and vandalism attacks on the site for Brisbane City Council to step in and issue an enforcement notice on TriCare to demolish the buildings.

TriCare’s initial redevelopment plans were approved by Council in December 2015.

Carina Heights resident John Tighe said the demolition should have taken place years ago.

“There would have been a lot of local people who had their parents living there in the last years of their lives looking at that building going to wrack and ruin,” Mr Tighe said.

“You expect the government of the day to make sure you don’t have to put up with an eyesore and hazard like that, but they had other priorities for some reason. I don’t know how or why they managed to extend their demolition time for as long as they did.”

TriCare plans to build 201 retirement units and a 163-bed residential care facility on the site over five stages.

B4C catchment manager Wayne Cameron said the group was pleased plans for a bowling green with six shelter sheds, one in the waterway corridor, had been revised and would be parkland.

“Council has an opportunity here to say what vegetation works are going to take place in the bowling green area. We’ve got to get native vegetation in there.”

TriCare did not respond to questions from The Advertiser.
