If you haven’t decided whether to come to Paralympics Australia and Harvey Norman’s Come and Try Day, hear what Australian Paralympic Wheelchair Basketballer Ella Sabljak has to say.

“The Come and Try Day is a great event for people who have a disability to come try out and get involved with a variety of Para-sports,” Sabljak said.

The free event, on this Saturday, May 7, at Nissan Arena is an amazing opportunity for people with disabilities to try a variety of Para-sports, learn more about them and the programs on offer through Brisbane, meet new friends and have a tonne of fun.

“I believe it’s so important for people to come down and meet other Para-athletes so they can meet people who have lived similar experiences to them,” the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Wheelchair basketballer said.

“Para-athletes are just like able bodied athletes, yet we have had to overcome so much adversity and we continually try to be the best versions of ourselves, despite everything. I think that’s remarkable.”

She said, “when I was a child, my role model was Louise Sauvage. I remember doing school assignments on her hoping I could be an athlete just like her and compete at the Paralympic Games.”

She said Come and Try Day was all about inspiring people to do their best.

There will be a chill-out zone at the event with games and lucky draws giving kids a chance to win Harvey Norman vouchers and their parents a chance to win coffee machines.

The day will be loaded with 15 different Para-sports, ranging from Para-table tennis, Para-canoe, Wheelchair tennis, Para-triathlon, Boccia, Goalball, Para-powerlifting, Wheelchair rugby, Wheelchair basketball, Para-archery, Para-cycling and Para-ice hockey.

Australian Paralympians Curtis McGrath (Para-canoe), and Ella Sabljak (Wheelchair basketball) will be dropping in to say hello.
