Thousands of Year 12 students wrap up their schooling next month and, in celebration of the year that was, more than 60 captains share their memories and hopes for the future. From small business owners to law students in the making, MEET QUEENSLAND’S FUTURE LEADERS

After 12 years of schooling, next month marks the final days of formal education for thousands of teenagers.
In celebration of the year that was Quest Newspapers reached out to high schools across southeast Queensland and nearly 60 school captains have shared their vision and inspiring words.
Schools from Caboolture to Ipswich were invited to take part, here is a snapshot, listed in alphabetical order by school.
AMBROSE TREACY COLLEGE
DAVID CHILDS
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Reflecting on a monumental final year of schooling and having the honour of being the College Captain, the best advice I could give myself was to be genuine, to not spend time trying to impress others and focus on being the best version of myself.
The other piece of advice I would offer is to remember to get the simple things right and big outcomes will follow.
What do you think your legacy is?
As Paul Kelly says, ‘From little things, big things grow’.
I hope that our cohort has built on the legacy left behind by past ATC Seniors, to instil a sense of pride and belonging in our community.
I hope that this is a culture of inclusivity continues to grow well after we leave the school gates.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Looking ahead, over the next three years I hope to be studying occupational therapy at university.
My goal is to challenge myself through personal, sporting and academic endeavours and to continue to be involved in community service.
BELLBIRD PARK STATE SECONDARY COLLEGE
KHUSHI KRISHNA
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would tell myself to take things one step at a time.
Focus on the step in front of you rather than the whole staircase.
What do you think your legacy is?
The legacy I hoped to have left behind is one of empowerment.
Reflecting on my dedication promoting individuality amongst those at Bellbird Park State Secondary College and in the wider community.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to see myself pursuing all my interests, surrounded by like-minded people who I share things in common with.
I strive to have a healthy work-life balance while I continue to chase my ambitions.
HARRY HULETT
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Focus on the big picture.
It is easy to fall into the habit of trying to tackle everything that comes up through the year.
What do you think your legacy is?
As a Proud Kamilaroi man it was an honour to be first First Nations person to become school captain in our college.
During my time as College Captain our school has fostered reconciliation discussion and activities, and also celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and culture.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to be working in the youth detention system.
I want to continue working with young people, particularly those that are disadvantaged.
BRAY PARK STATE HIGH SCHOOL
LORIEAL VILLAR
What advice would you give to yourself 12 months ago?
Advice I would give myself is to always be prepared for anything and everything.
Make sure you give yourself time to prepare both mentally and physically for the challenges that come with being a leader.
What do you think your legacy is?
My legacy is one of unity, academic excellence, and community service.
I strived to create an inclusive environment where students thrived academically encouraging leadership development.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years after high school, I aspire to be well on my way to achieving my dream of becoming a part of the Aviation Australia Industry.
Enrolling in an aviation course is a significant step towards this goal, and I envision myself immersed in rigorous training, gaining in-depth knowledge of aviation principles, and acquiring the skills needed to take to the skies.
SARAH HANSON
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Have confidence in your abilities and believe in yourself.
My self-confidence now compared to the beginning of the year has grown so much thanks to the stronger connections I have made and the amazing experiences I have been a part of.
What do you think your legacy is?
My legacy will be a dedicated leader who positively contributed to the school ethos and wider community by having an optimistic and creative outlook on life.
Where do you see yourself in three years?
I am extremely passionate about visual arts and would love to study at university for a Bachelor of Secondary Education and Fine Arts to pursue a career as a high school art teacher.
In three years’, time I will be in my third year of my double degree, excited to soon enter the workforce and start my dream job, working within my local community with the next generation of artists.
RACHEL BROWNING
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Enjoy yourself as much as possible.
Have fun with everything and get the most out of it! It goes by so fast so just make as many memories as you possibly can!
What do you think your legacy is?
I believe that I have had an impact on younger grades, showing them that as grade 12‘s we are not that scary and they can come and talk to us.
As a leader, I have made many friends, and a lot of the younger students always come to talk to me whenever they see me!
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to continue studying at university completing my third year.
While doing this I hope to find myself enjoying my hobbies and doing things that I love like art, music, photography.
LACHLAN COADY
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
For me, advice I would give myself 12 months ago would be led by example, communicate effectively, foster inclusivity, collaborate with your team, set achievable goals, stay organized, inspire, and motivate others, seek feedback, balance responsibilities, and enjoy the journey as a school captain.
What do you think your legacy is?
I think my legacy is having a positive impact on the school community through fostering a sense of unity, and inspiring others and by also leaving a lasting impression through my leadership and initiatives.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next 3 years I hope to see myself concluding my study of a Bachelor of Science and starting to find a career that suits my skills to hopefully change the world.
THOMAS COADY
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Take every opportunity and make sure to spend plenty of time making memories throughout the senior year as well as study hard and keep your head down.
Grade 12, especially as a leader, has been very rewarding and informative, and there’s not much I would do differently except take more photos and make sure I made the most of my time which I think everyone in our cohort has done.
What do you think your legacy is?
As a cohort and student council team we are looking to buy and install a notice board for the school.
As a personal legacy, I think I have left a lasting impact on my peers and students throughout a multitude of different grades which help to inspire them and keep them motivated throughout their last few years of schooling.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
After school I am going into the Navy, and look to have completed my training by three years and be in a comfortable and stable position where I am working on myself and working through th
BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL
ANNA MCAULEY
What do you think your legacy is?
As well as the traditions continued and initiatives started this year, I’d like to think I will be remembered for the individual relationships I built with students.
I hope they’ve been meaningful and that we will remember them in the years to come.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Hopefully, I will be studying for an Arts/Law degree.
LOUISE CAMPBELL
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
My advice would be that listening to people is more interesting than telling them what to do – and that this 12 months is going to feel like it only lasted for about 12 days — so take the time to reflect on all that is happening.
What do you think your legacy is?
This year, our “True Blue” awards have celebrated the importance of student participation and encouragement to build a sense of community across the entire student cohort.
We hope that this initiative will be continued next year.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope that, by using the skills I was able to develop at school and relying on my old friends, I will be continuing to challenge myself academically and personally.
And hopefully, I will still be wearing a hat and sunscreen – even when there is no one to remind me.
BRISBANE STATE HIGH SCHOOL
JORDANA MCLEAN
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Embrace the experience and enjoy the journey.
Live in the moment and take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you.
What do you think your legacy is?
I have believed in, advocated for and represented quality public education for all and hope to be remembered for this.
I have encouraged others to continue to uphold the State High values, spirit and culture that our amazing school is renowned for.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I see myself being happy, continuing to embrace life and continuing my education.
My dream is to study dentistry or optometry and to make a difference in this health-related field.
HARRIS ZHONG
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Prioritise your time effectively and give yourself sufficient downtime to rest.
This means you need to zero in on your goals by slowly achieving initial small steps, while giving yourself some free time to hang out with friends.
What do you think your legacy is?
My legacy is ‘Kindness Day’ which was a project that we held at the end of Term 3 to encourage positivity amongst students where lollipops were given out to those who carried out random acts of kindness.
Where do you see yourself in the next three years?
After high school, I plan to study bachelor of advanced finance and economics while pursuing entrepreneurship.
JADE BARTHOLOMEUSZ
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would advise myself not to change my approach and face the year with unbridled enthusiasm and the same ‘can do’ mindset.
I would encourage myself to seize any opportunities as you never know what may emerge and finally, to know that everything happens for a reason.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope my legacy continues through the continuation of the inaugural student-led BSHS/QGSSSA ‘Women in Sport’ event.
I am very pleased to share that this event will be hosted by Clayfield College next year.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I aspire to achieve my goals, which include progressing my field hockey career, completing a business degree at university and hopefully becoming a successful business owner of my venture, 1% Activewear. Stay tuned for its launch!
ADITYA JOSHI
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Don’t be afraid to feel stressed.
It is fine to feel stress as long as you take care of yourself as well as supporting those you care about.
What do you think your legacy is?
I believe my legacy is acknowledging the already diverse culture at State High and connecting different cultures to each other.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to pursue a dual law degree at The University of Queensland and going on an exchange program to watch Arsenal football matches in England.
CENTENARY STATE HIGH SCHOOL
BRADY PEUT
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
To slow down.
With the fast-paced and ever-moving clock ticking down until your last week of captaincy or your last day of high school, it is important to appreciate every day.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope to leave behind a legacy of “they did stuff different”.
We aimed to implement inaugural projects and succeeded in establishing a Year 12 Student Lounge, hosting a State of Origin Night, and incorporating a “Spirit Week” into the Year 12 cohort’s last week of school.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to be studying a Bachelor of Law at university and to be actively involved in the university in some capacity.
CLAIRE INGHAM
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
To relax, knowing everything will work out how it is meant to.
What do you think your legacy is?
I think my legacy is one that encourages others to get involved in things all throughout the school and to always take on new opportunities.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years I hope to see myself at university, with a supportive group of people around me, working towards a full-time career in the medical field.
SIENNA MORENA
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
A piece of advice I would have offered myself those 12 months ago would be to never be hesitant to reach out for support or guidance when facing obstacles; whether a challenging assessment period or a captaincy responsibility.
Seeking advice and help from fellow captains, teachers, and peers is a strength that will help you manage your time, achieve your goals, and be the best captain you can be.
What do you think your legacy is?
From the beginning, I knew I wanted to be remembered as a captain who always made an effort to foster positivity, inclusivity, and encourage involvement, by ensuring that school was an environment where every student felt valued and heard.
I also wanted to be remembered as a captain who embodied the school spirit, by always trying my best to be a positive, hardworking, reliable, and kind-hearted leader of the school.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years, I hope to see myself nearing the final year of my Law degree at university.
CORINDA STATE HIGH SCHOOL
SIENNA HEAD
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Don’t be afraid to say no.
Sometimes it may be easy to say yes to a lot of things, but at the end of the day your academics and school work is number one.
What do you think your legacy is?
I would say that Olivia and my legacy is listening to those around us and taking into account the opinions of the people who matter, our peers.
I feel as if we have made a strong and positive contribution to the school environment through ensuring that people feel listened to.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In three years’ time, I hope to be at the Australian Defence Force Academy as an Air Force Officer Cadet when I will be in my final year studying a Bachelor of Business.
OLIVIA HOLLIS
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
My advice to myself 12 months ago would be to keep doing what you are doing, and continue to work hard.
I would also recommend relaxing a little bit, and remembering to enjoy the ride.
What do you think your legacy is?
I think that our legacy has been setting up systems to stay organised as a Student Council and have stronger lines of communication with School Executives.
We have tangibly been able to pass on some helpful tools to the leaders of 2024, and I feel that we have set up and maintained a strong culture of involvement and enjoyment when it comes to Year 12 and whole school events.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In three years’ time, I hope to be finishing my undergraduate degree and starting my Doctor of Medicine postgraduate course.
I also hope to have a stable job, be part of a netball team, and be enjoying time with friends and family where I can.
EMMAUS COLLEGE
DANIEL RYAN
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
The advice I would give to myself 12 months ago is to believe that my ideas and projects can work, and I shouldn’t be nervous to present all of my ideas.
What do you think your legacy is?
My legacy would be my presence around the school and during lunch.
By the end of the year I had so many people waving and saying hello that I spent the entire time walking through the school smiling.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Studying Law at QUT to eventually get my doctorate in sociology and law, so I can begin publishing and teaching at a university.
JAYAH MILLARD
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Take breaks, find balance early, burnout is a real thing.
Study and education are important, but so is your mental health.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope I have inspired the future leaders of Emmaus to uphold the schools’ values and that they continue to create positive change.
It was important to me to promote an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and respected.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to be well travelled.
I am excited to explore Australia and then further my studies.
EVERTON PARK STATE HIGH SCHOOL
ELLEN LEVER
What advice would you give to yourself 12 months ago?
Starting the final year of schooling was so daunting and if someone had told me to trust myself and have faith that everything was going to work out, the weight of the world isn’t on your shoulders.
Remember that balance is important not only in your schooling but socially and emotionally, don’t isolate yourself. But most importantly, study more, it takes off so much pressure at the end of the year.
What do you think your legacy is?
Our cohort led by example with passion and pride, through sporting carnivals, and various events, that will undoubtedly continue for years to come.
We fostered change, creating a fun, friendly environment where every student is not only known but is unique and valued.
Everton Park is all about creating brighter futures for the students, but I think that we have managed to unlock the school’s potential, creating a brighter future for the school.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Within the past few years, I have developed a passion for STEM and in 3 years’ time I hope to be in the final years of an engineering degree.
I envision myself being a part of a Women in STEM program hoping to inspire a future generation of young girls to pursue STEM as a career.
It's been my dream for a long time now to be a role model for young girls and it would be a great honour and privilege to be doing this in the next three years.
DAVID DAH
What advice would you have given yourself 12 months ago?
Honestly, I would not give myself any advice. I know this may seem not very wise, but I believe I am where I needed to be.
This moment in time where I am physically, mentally and position-wise in life, wouldn‘t have been possible without the mistakes I’ve made, the inevitable or surprise challenges that I faced, the actions and choices that I made, the beautiful and amazing supportive people around me.
I am where I need to be.
What do you think your legacy is?
People know you by what you do.
So, I hope the small things I did to make people laugh, smile and jump about.
I hope the light that I gave, brightened people‘s days even for a second or a moment but most importantly, I hope I left a legacy of love and kindness.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years, I hope to see myself in a position where I can help people in any way I can with the skills, knowledge, wisdom and love I have accumulated through my life.

KIARA KNOPKE
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would emphasise the importance of relying on other people more and not taking on huge amounts of work.
While I could balance it, it definitely would have been easier with less to juggle.
What do you think your legacy is?
I think that my legacy is my passion for service.
Especially in the last two years, I have made it a priority to not only practice serving others, but to positively encourage others to serve.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years, I hope to be about halfway through my degree in Behavioural Science & Law at University.
I hope that I have spent my time working hard for myself, but also taking time to enjoy my young years by travelling and spending time with loved ones.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Spend less time worrying about things you can‘t control and more time concentrating on what you can.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope that my legacy as a College Captain is one of empowerment and inspiration for future students due to the commitment over the past year of fostering an environment where each student feels not only supported but also compelled to embrace their individual strengths and potential.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to be attending university in my third year to pursue a career as a pharmacist.
FERNY GROVE STATE HIGH SCHOOL
HARRISON BURNS
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would tell myself to stay calm and keep things in perspective.
Grade 12 may look scary and intimidating at the start, but you’re only in high school once so have fun and make the most of it.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope that over the past year I have left a lasting legacy as a positive role model, supporting positive mental health and inspiring all to reach their full potential.
I have always tried my best to listen, support and empower my fellow students, showing them that nobody is perfect, and that growth and adaptation are all part of the journey.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years, I’d ideally love to be studying environmental engineering at QUT.
My passion would be to generate sustainable solutions to help improve renewable energy technologies, making the Earth a cleaner place for generations to come.
NATALIE BRUCE
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would tell myself to remember to enjoy my last year of school.
Year 12 goes incredibly quickly, and while I made so many memories, it is easy to take the little moments for granted.
What do you think your legacy is?
I think that my legacy is the contribution I made to increasing mental health awareness at my school.
The captain’s goal for 2023 was to raise awareness for mental health, as it is something we felt passionate about, and something we knew was affecting many of our peers.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years, I will hopefully be part-way through an advanced science degree.
I’m still a bit unsure about where this degree will take me, but I am excited to see what kind of opportunities it opens up for me.
AMBER SMYTH
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Stay focused, work hard, enjoy the experience and try everything.
It might seem hard but it will all work out in the end.
What do you think your legacy is?
Our legacy is that we wanted to help people with their mental health and how to cope with all the stresses that are part of high school.
I think we were successful in making it a topic of conversation so that we could support our fellow students.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
At university studying a double degree of business and engineering.
BLAKE BRADLEY
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Make a proper study schedule and focus on studying to that schedule, start assignments well ahead of time and do multiple drafts.
It’s your last year of high school so enjoy it but still do your absolute best to achieve the best possible results.
What do you think your legacy is?
One of the first few years through the ATAR system, our senior years were disrupted by COVID, however despite all this as a grade we all managed to persevere.
We focused on promoting good mental health through the push up challenge.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope I’m on track at uni, doing my best possible work.
I’d hope to have done my placement by now and be nearing joining the workforce as a part time employee specialising in my Uni degree during my final year studying.
GROVES CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
VANLAL FANAI
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would tell myself to have a higher work ethic, to stay disciplined and to learn to balance school with responsibilities outside of school.
I‘d also tell myself to make sure to enjoy the year to the fullest.
What do you think your legacy is?
I believe that the impact I have on my peers is one that is uplifting and one that makes others strive to achieve the best they can.
When I leave school, I hope to be remembered as a leader who served and cared for the students around me.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Within the next three years I hope to see myself studying a course in architecture at university, staying healthy and keeping in touch with my friends.
Art is my passion, and I would love to develop in that area within the year to come.
SCARLETT MAGIN
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Hurting now doesn‘t mean your future holds pain, so try and make your future self proud.
Continue striving for what you want and believe in yourself.
What do you think your legacy is?
I would like to be remembered as someone who was hard working and dedicated to what I put my mind to. Someone who gave it their best shot.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years I hope to be finishing my undergraduate in pharmacy to then continue into medicine.
Hopefully, I can get some travelling the world in as well.
IPSWICH STATE HIGH SCHOOL
KADEE BEAN
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would have told myself to keep going.
That even when times get tough and you feel like you have nothing left to give, keep pushing through.
What do you think your legacy is?
I believe my legacy is that I always leave a room brighter than it was.
I believe in always showing up as my best self and encouraging others to do the same.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to see myself in my final year of my Bachelor of Nursing degree at my chosen university.
Enjoying the freedom and independence of adulthood and exploring all new avenues of life.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
12 months ago the advice I would have given myself is to stay positive and focus on study for year 12.
What do you think your legacy is?
Personally, I think my legacy at ISHS would be left with the boys dance crew as I feel I have had the most impact there.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next 3 years I hope to see myself almost completing a trade in vehicle mechanics and looking to begin my own journey owning a business in that career.
AUSTIN MANN
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Advice I would give myself 12 months ago would be to not let work build up and overwhelm you.
Create a plan for what you want and continue working by towards it.
What do you think your legacy is?
I’d like to think my legacy is being a hardworking role model who leads and inspires with integrity.
That I brought up other people with me and worked with others to improve as a cohort.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Over the next three years, I hope to continue my education and pursue a law degree.
I hope to work with organisations that make positive impacts on society and advocate for people in need.
ASHLEIGH BENSON
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Be more confident, and don‘t let others’ opinions hold you back.
Embrace opportunities and make the most of every experience!
What do you think your legacy is?
During my time at Ipswich State High School, I‘ve been fortunate to take part in statewide government events and school productions, where I’ve proudly displayed my commitment to the arts and talent.
I hope that my journey serves as an inspiration to future students, encouraging them to embrace their artistic goals and take the stage with confidence.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next few years, I think about myself pursuing my passion for engineering at university while also dedicating my time to volunteering for orchestras
JAYDA WENT
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
If I could go back in time and give advice to my year 11 self, I would tell her to enjoy every moment, the time goes to fast to be worrying.
What got me through year 12 was prioritising my mental and physical health, without that there is honestly no point.
What do you think your legacy is?
The legacy I believe I have left behind is as an example to other students.
Stop trying to be someone you are not, and focus on being who you are.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years I hope to be extending my knowledge at the University of Southern Queensland, partaking in a Bachelor of Nursing.
Following my degree, I would love to further my studies into a postgraduate specialty of dermatology.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
If I was to give advice to myself 12 months ago, it would be to listen to people that try to help you, rather than turn them away because of your ego.
Sometimes when people tell you something you don’t want to hear, it’s not because they don’t want to see you succeed.
It’s because they don’t want to see you lose.
What do you think your legacy is?
In regards to school I want to be remembered as someone who has worked hard and will continue to work hard.
My legacy is that I will always strive for the best I can possibly achieve.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In three years, I hope to see myself playing in the NRL or the professional rugby league system.
In three years I hope that I have a high income job so that I can support myself and my family

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Reflecting on my final year of high school, if I had the opportunity to give myself advice 12 months ago, I would say that while studying is important, trusting the process and focusing on the present moment will lead to a more fulfilling final year.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope that my legacy will be defined by relentless dedication to relieving pain and suffering in the lives of others.
Through my work and compassion, I hope to of made a lasting impact on my peers both physical and mental wellbeing.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In three years from now, I aspire to have honed my skills and knowledge in a way that allows me to bring comfort and healing to those who need it most.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Enjoy the journey. Take a moment to reflect on my primary and high school education – Year 12 absolutely flew by.
What do you think your legacy is?
I want my legacy to be one of giving everything a go.
You get out of school life what you put in.
We acted as role models for the younger generations and leaders of the College, setting an example for them to follow and build upon this legacy.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years, I hope to be healthy, happy and enjoy being in my 20s.
Ideally, I will be studying at university and earning money with a part-time job.
ARIEL FRANZMANN
What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
I would tell myself to enjoy and savour every moment and opportunity during my senior year and not take anything for granted. Make sure I prioritise balance between studies and commitments, it is only possible to successfully fulfil and achieve your goals throughout the year if you look after yourself. Year 12 is challenging, yet it will be one of the most rewarding and memorable years of my schooling. I would remind myself during those hard times how far I’ve come, and what I’ve accomplished, because the year will go by so quickly.
What do you think your legacy is?
I aspire to be remembered for my dedication, commitment and positivity at the College, but most importantly,
I hope to be recognised for my approachability, genuineness and dependability as a leader – qualities I think are part of the legacy.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I’m leaving behind at JPC.
In the next three years, I hope to be pursuing performing arts while also studying drama and secondary education at university.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
In terms of advice for leadership for myself, I‘d say plan your term way in advance, so when the term comes around everything is all laid out and you don’t miss opportunities to do something.
I’d also focus on little events and activities instead of trying to tackle big events every term because the small things can have a bigger impact.
What do you think your legacy is?
I really wanted to grow our community by creating connections with not just my own grade.
I worked in peer mentoring which was guiding year 7 in the beginning of the year and then I gathered friends to join me in playing with the preps in morning sessions and sometimes lunch.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Hopefully, in uni or travelling or both!
I have a passion for travelling and human service/support, so I want to do something that incorporates both.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
My advice would be to maintain strong friendships and to ask for help when needed.
Throughout my experience at Loreto, I have found that there is always someone willing to help; I would tell myself that it‘s important to ask for help when needed.
What do you think your legacy is?
My legacy is fostering a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment within Loreto and allowing people the space to feel comfortable to be their authentic selves and feel appreciated.
That was one of our key focuses as the leaders of the College this year; I sincerely hope it has come through in our leadership.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In three years, I want to be immersing myself in social science research, as I hope to be pursuing university life with a degree in the humanities field.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Advice I would offer my younger self is to keep everything in perspective.
Whilst at times, worries and concerns can be consuming, it is important to remember that, soon these stresses will be minor and insignificant.
What do you think your legacy is?
2023 was the year of justice for Loreto College.
Therefore, my leadership has focused on inclusion and equity for all.
I hope my legacy is reinforcing the importance Loreto places on inclusion; each person in our community is welcomed and appreciated.

Over the next three years I hope to study a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and begin my travels throughout the world.

Stay open-minded and really organised.
Organisation is key to ensuring that you can stay on top of everything; it‘ll help so much when exams and assignments are due and help you stay stress-free.

Our legacy is unity and empowering others to grow in themselves and grow as a community.

I hope to see myself finishing my psychology course and moving on to my honours.
I hope to be able to move out by then, but realistically I‘m unsure I could do that in that timeframe.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
While it‘s all been very exciting, I would say make time for yourself on a regular basis and let the rest of your life be as frictionless as possible.
I know doing as much as possible is always fun but if you do too at once, you will burn yourself out.

I hope my legacy is that I have been someone younger students go to for advice and wisdom.
I hope I was a friendly face in the crowd who people felt welcomed by.

In the next three years, I would like to study or work in the creative industries.
My goal is to be acting, directing, or working towards those areas.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Be proactive, but also live in the moment and enjoy the opportunity I‘ve been given.
A year flew by, and if I could go back, I would want to implement ideas sooner, but also try to have more fun along the way.
What do you think your legacy is?
We may have not been perfect leaders, but we strived every day to be nice people.
I think our legacy will be “people over projects”, and I‘d be happy for our legacy to be that I was someone people felt comfortable around.

I hope to see myself immersed in something I‘m passionate about.

My advice to myself 12 months ago would be to seize every opportunity that you get and make the most of it.
Even if the situation is outside of your comfort zone, just give everything a go.

I believe my legacy for the Redlands College community is fostering a positive atmosphere where everyone is keen to contribute and challenge themselves in new environments and situations.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to see myself in the middle to final stages of my degree, whether that is down the path of medicine or engineering. Furthermore, I hope that I will still be a keen member participating in various sports, having fun and participating in team culture.

Fueled by my love for first aid gained through surf lifesaving, I‘m eager to dive into the world of paramedicine.

Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Lucy Maki-Neste: Into the future, I hope to find new ways to continue to foster kindness and create change in my community.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
If I had a chance to give myself some advice during this period, I would tell myself to set clear goals.
Setting goals allows you to have direction and motivation and allows you tot get things done.
What do you think your legacy is?
At the start of my leadership journey, I really wanted to be remembered for my kind heart and for
how I treat the people around me.
I believe that I achieved this by introducing some new community events within the College such as our Harmony Day and our first every Colour Run.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years I hope to see myself at a university studying a degree in education.
Education is my true passion together with dance and performing arts, so I would also like to see myself doing some community musicals.

The biggest piece of advice I’d give myself as a College Captain is to be confident.
When surrounded by wonderful like-minded leaders, it can be daunting at first when you try to take control of a meeting – all it takes is just three deep breaths, a few moments to compose yourself and then jump into action.
What do you think your legacy is?
I really am hoping that my legacy is that I’m a role-model and hopefully that I’m able to inspire people who have second doubts to do anything.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I would like to be doing something that helps people, but I’d be lying if I was to say I knew exactly where I’d be in the next three years.
I’ve just tried my best to take in every moment of my last year in school.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Although after thinking over the year, the biggest piece of advice I would give myself, is as simple as “delegate”.
You hear it so often in leadership that word, and you have people say, “you’ve got to do it right to help with everything you have on”.
What do you think your legacy is?
For the students, I hope I left something for them to follow, to look at and say, “I want to be there when I’m older”, to think back on their firsts years at the College and remember the connections and experiences we had together. .
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Hopefully I would’ve spent some time working, living, and travelling over in Ireland for the first year outside of school.
I know (or right now I do) that I want to be a Marine Biologist in the future, although that’s a bit more than three years away.

What advice would you have given yourself 12 months ago?
I would tell myself to seek help when needed and remember that strength comes from vulnerability.
Despite caring for my sick parents and managing school life as a captain, I should have opened up to teachers, friends, and family.
These events testify to my resilience, but I don‘t have to endure it alone.
What do you think your legacy is?
By putting together the “World’s Greatest Shave” for the Leukaemia Foundation, we made more than $11,000 and got students to show their support for people with blood cancer.
I was also very eager to get our school to participate in the QLD & NSW Schools Blood Drive, which raised awareness of the urgent need for blood donors.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In three years, I want to work in the medical field in a rural place like Kaltjiti (Fregon) or another underserved community.
I aim to use what I know about medicine to help make treatment better in these areas.
I want to make a fundamental change in the lives of people in rural areas by giving them access to excellent medical services.
ZOE CLIFT
What advice would you have given yourself 12 months ago?
The biggest thing I learnt in 2023 was that mistakes are normal, and they will happen, but you shouldn’t look at them as if the pushing you back it should be taken as a building block to get you closer to your goal.
Mistakes are the foundation of success.
What do you think your legacy is?
I enjoyed watching the culture in the school come back especially after COVID.
Students and teachers both participated in activates, such as our fundraisers and interhouse events, allowing everyone to feel more confident in stepping outside their comfort zone.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I plan to complete a Cert IV in dance teaching and management as well as full-time training at Dynamite Studios at the Gold Coast.

What advice would you have given yourself 12 months ago?
If I were to rewind to 12 months ago I would tell myself to make the most of my senior year at high school.
If I knew that it all would come to an end so quick I would’ve made more of an effort to embrace every moment, create memories, and appreciate the bonds that have been built between friends, teachers, and family.
What do you think your legacy is?
We looked at our current leadership model and worked with different leadership industry professionals, conducted relevant research, and listened to multiple guest speakers to put forward a reimagined leadership structure within our school.
Over the course of the year, we created a student leadership body incorporating all leadership groups throughout the whole school to enhance the planning, communication, and results of school events and activities.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Over the next three years I would like to step out of my comfort zone, take some risks, and really go at every opportunity I get.
This will help me grow not only as a person but also as I’m finding fulltime employment.

I would tell myself to truly enjoy this last year of high school to the fullest.
Make it easy for yourself by staying on top of your studies because trust me, you will need to.

Do everything you do with pride and intent, but especially have fun while doing it.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Take every opportunity that is put in front of you and back yourself, because you never know what you can achieve until you try, and you never know if you’ll enjoy something unless you give it a go.
It’s so important to take risks and go beyond your comfort zone, so just do it.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope I’ve left a legacy in our Leo’s club as president by organising many events and fundraisers to better out outside community.
If I have allowed for future leaders to continue that legacy within the community, then that is all I could hope for.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years I hope to be studying in my third year of law at UQ, on my way to becoming a lawyer.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Your teachers are there to help you, they’ve gone through similar experiences to you so don’t be afraid to ask them for help.
Most importantly, when things get hard at the end, never give up, you’ll be a graduate before you know it so make it count and leave no regrets!
What do you think your legacy is?
My legacy is that any student can have a rocky start in High School, but they can always make it better for themselves later down the track.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
With the current teacher shortage, I see myself in three years still at university studying to become a high school teacher, my passion for passing on knowledge not only gives me a happy feeling, but I also know I’ve made an impact on a another person’s thoughts and education.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Say yes, take the opportunities, they are where the memories are made.
Don’t be afraid to take breaks and don’t feel guilty for spending time with friends or family, brain breaks are needed and works wonders for limiting stress levels.
What do you think your legacy is?
Making connections – being someone who always strives to unite people and bring them together, I hope this continues on as the connections that were made within the school, the inclusion and unity stays strong.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
Studying and working in a speech pathology clinic to gain experience while I‘m studying.
Hopefully have time (and money) for a bit of travel too!

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?
Twelve months ago, I would have told myself to never mix work and play: whilst studying at the beach or doing the wordle in class can feel productive – or like a stress break – getting work done when you need to get work done, and having fun when you need to have fun is important.
What do you think your legacy is?
I hope I have been a positive role model for younger students to drive themselves into their chosen pathway with a smile on their face.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In the next three years, I hope to be finishing my bachelor degree of paramedicine, and acing the gamsat, and on my way to becoming a surgeon.

What advice would you have given yourself 12 months ago?
I would tell myself not to be so worried about which leadership position myself or anyone else got, as we all ended up helping each other through every event regardless of which role we got.
Additionally, I‘d tell myself that I shouldn’t have been so worried about communicating with some of the team members that I didn’t know very well, as I can now confidently say that I became well acquainted with everyone on the team, both personally and professionally.
What do you think your legacy is?
I think that my legacy was my ability to show up, and positively communicate with not only other students, but members of the community at both internal and external events.
I hope that once I leave, my involvement and confidence will be remembered and even referenced as a model student leader.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I would love to still be at university within the next three years, hopefully having figured out whether I will continue with my tertiary education or find that full-time employment was preferable.
I hope to still have connections with my friends and fellow leaders from the school, and see acquaintances from my time in leadership within the community, and possibly even utilise these connections to strive towards any professional goals or aspirations that I gather within that time.

I'd tell myself to enjoy the ride because the next 12 months are going to be some of the best of my life.
I’d tell myself to apply myself as much as I can in every facet of life and to nurture the relationships I hold with those around me.

I think my legacy within leadership at my school is a straightforward school captain who puts his students first and is more than willing to figuratively get down in the dirt and participate in school activities.

Going into our roles, our leadership team wanted to be remembered as a proactive, devoted group.
Perhaps our legacy is also being the leaders that genuinely cared and strived for the interests of our peers and school.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
In three years’, time, I see myself pursuing further studies at university.
However, I hope that I do not view my post-graduation journey as a tunnel-visioned pathway to a career, rather that I am personally invested or enthusiastic in whatever I strive towards.

Always use your support networks, and to learn about different leadership styles of the leadership team and how to manage and work effectively within the group.

I hope to have spread the message to put your true authentic self out there, and that you should share what you love.
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next three years?
I hope to be graduating with my first degree, a Bachelor in Music Performance (Classical Voice).
