A beloved trampoline park on Brisbane’s southside, which also hosts laser tag and rock-climbing, has announced its shock closure, citing the soaring costs of insuring the venue.
Funlab Pty Ltd, the owner of Sky Zone Macgregor on Kessels Rd, with a second venue also in Sydney, announced the news via its website.
“Due to growing industry-wide trends of rapidly increasing costs and significantly diminished availability of insurance for trampoline parks, Funlab has regrettably decided to close its Sky Zone venues,” Funlab chief executive Michael Schrieber said in the statement.
“We’d love to thank the millions of jumpers who have visited us over the past seven years since opening as well as the fantastic staff who have worked during this time to deliver amazing experiences for guests of all ages at our Sky Zone locations.
“We’re sad to say goodbye, and thank our guests for jumping with us over the years.”
Staff from Sky Zone Macgregor will be extended the opportunity to join other venues in Funlab’s growing portfolio including Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq which is located at Toombul Shopping Centre as well as other brands including Holey Moley Golf Club and Strike Bowling Bar.
People with bookings after the closure period will be contacted by Sky Zone’s concierge and sales team.
Gutted fans took to social media to express their gratitude and sadness.
“This is so sad, we all had a great time and my girls had their best birthday party there. Thank you for bringing wonderful memories and hopefully we can see you back soon,” said one.
“We’ve attended a lot of jumping places and Sky Zone was our absolute favourite. Your staff interacting with the kids by playing games was the best,” said another.
Mr Schrieber was contacted for comment.
