Friends of a Brisbane father have given an emotional tribute to the man, describing him as “one of a kind” after he was tragically killed in a car crash.
Simon McKinnon, 44, died after his car reportedly collided with a pole in Carina late on January 7.
Queensland Police said initial investigation indicated around 11.30pm, McKinnon was driving south on Creed Rd when it is believed he lost control on a bend in the road, leading to the crash.
McKinnon died at the scene.
There has been an outpouring of emotion from family and friends of the former Carina resident after his passing, with a close friend McKinnon used to work with, saying he would miss him every day.
“(There will be) no one else will be like you, one of a kind actually,” D’Arcy Wade said.
“Simon was a great mate, father to Zac, mechanic and overall a cool dude who I was so lucky to have in my life.
“He had a funny sense of humour, something we shared together that not a lot of people had.
“He was a great father to Zac, he always spoke highly of him, loved him to bits and wanted to be the best dad he could for him.
“He loved anything with a Ford badge and was a true diehard mechanic, who loved the old school classic cars and even had a small collection under his home
“He was a no bullshit kind of guy, very honest, straight up and could think logically even in difficult times
“We only spoke only a couple days ago, your voice will never leave my mind.
“Thank you for the memories, I’ll miss you everyday mate. Things will never be the same.”
Another friend said he was a “well loved” man by his family and especially his son as well as his huge circle of friends in Australia, USA and Canada.
“There has been many outpouring and heartfelt posts and photos in memory of him by the people he touched.
“He loved heavy metal and his cars”
His Aunt, Wendy McKinnon, posted on Facebook, saying his passing left a huge hole in the family.
“He was such a loving man – adored his son,” she said.
“I pray he is with his father and mother. Your passing doesn’t mean you will ever be forgotten. Love you always Simon.”
One of McKinnon’s friends from the US also paid tribute and said he would always be loved and will never be forgotten.
