A BRISBANE family was kept from entering their home last week after a seven foot snake made itself comfortable at their front door.

The male carpet python was at the front of the Gumdale property late afternoon on August 28 with the family sitting back and laughing as the snake apparently rang the door bell.

“This big boy was keeping a family from entering their home this afternoon in Gumdale. After having a good look around their property for the female python’s scent he didn’t have any luck, so he decided to take a nap on their shoe rack instead … he’s now been relocated to a large nature reserve where he’ll find plenty of food & water and perhaps a girlfriend to,” Brisbane Snake Catchers posted on their Facebook page.

Stewart Lalor from Brisbane Snake Catchers said residents could expect to see more snakes on properties, especially over the next 10 weeks.

“It’s really just the start of the season from now basically until May,” he said.

“The next 10 weeks will be our busiest period as snakes, even venomous ones, cross over to properties to try and find a mate. These snakes are usually are a bit cautious around people and properties but they’ll forget about that when they have on thing in their mind.

“People just need to remain vigilant and not panic if they see snakes on their property and just call a snake catcher. Snakes won’t attack really unless people try and kill them or catch them.”
