EARTHWORKS are well underway after setbacks last year at the riverside Murarrie site for Scottish craft brewer BrewDog.
Heavy machinery moved onto the site at 77 Metroplex Ave late in December with earthworks, retaining, trenches and stormwater works now underway.
The $30 million brewery was approved by Brisbane City Council in May last year and construction was originally planned to start in July last year.
With that timeframe the building was due to be completed by late last year and the first Brisbane-brewed BrewDog beer released in the first quarter of this year.
BrewDog Global Head of Marketing Sophie More said they were aiming for completion by May.
“We are still aiming for Autumn 2019 to be up and running and are planning to host a community event at some point over the next few months with members of the BrewDog team to share updates of our journey and plans for opening,” she said.
The development includes the construction of a 50hl, 3000sq m brewing and canning facility as well as a restaurant, taproom and visitor centre.
Ms More said the onsite taproom, the DogTap bar, overlooking the Brisbane River would provide an array of craft beer for visitors and locals.
She said the company was also looking for Australian bar sites across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
The launch of BrewDog Australia is expected to generate 150 jobs in the area over the next five years.
Brewdog was set up by James Watt and Martin Dickie in 2007. The brewery and pub chain is based in Ellon, Scotland.
