HAWTHORNE residents will land the catch of the summer as popular restaurant The Fishmonger’s Wife moves to the suburb in the coming weeks.

The fish and chip restaurant has been hooked on relocating to Hawthorne since the closing of the East Brisbane shopping centre’s Spar supermarket mid-last year.

The fish specialists have picked up numerous awards during their 15-year tenure in East Brisbane, including three Southeast Advertiser Quest Business Awards and two Best Fish and Chips in Australia awards.

Co-owner Sue Meadowcroft said she hoped the shop’s reputation would be enough to lure loyal customers to the new location.

“We chose Hawthorne because we are trying to stay as close to this side of town as we can,” Ms Meadowcroft said.

“Where we are going is just a four-minute drive away to keep us close to our current customers.”

Ms Meadowcroft said the move would be used as a chance to “rejuvenate” the restaurant and attract more dine-in customers, with the new setting inside a refurbished century-old Queenslander.

“It’s like the universe has given us an opportunity to move into something quite special,” Ms Meadowcroft said.

“We will have our same menu and a bigger kitchen so we will be able to add more variety while providing a larger dining area in a character setting.”

The Fishmonger’s Wife will move to 48 Orchard St, Hawthorne, next month.
