FOOTY fever has hit the bayside this week as the local community shows its support for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
The Seagulls will play in another Intrust Super Cup grand final this weekend but the impact of the team spreads much wider than just the football club, according to local politicians.
“At the end of the day, Wynnum Manly is a rugby league town and the Seagulls are at the heart and soul of the community” State Member for Lytton Joan Pease said.
“I was down at the markets on Sunday and everyone was talking about the Seagulls, they have such a big impact.”
Ms Pease also encouraged local residents and businesses to show their support for the Seagulls by displaying the team’s colours.
“Everyone on the bayside, show your support for the team this week, display the team’s colours somewhere and businesses decorate your place in Seagulls colours to show your support for the mighty Seagulls,” she said.
“I will have streamers at my office if anyone would like some to use.”
Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta said to see Seagulls make the grand final was an inspiration.
“They not only inspire future league players but bring together people from all corners of the community,” he said.
