A derelict wing full of boarded up windows and run down buildings, where restaurants to two major food chains used to call home, is becoming an eyesore hurting one of Brisbane’s major shopping centres.
A large area of the site at Westfield’s Carindale Shopping Centre on the corner of Winstanley St and Creek Rd has remained unused after Hungry Jacks and Sizzler closed more than a year ago.
A car wash is currently the only business operating at the precinct.

It is a blemish on an otherwise classy shopping centre, which received a $310 million upgrade in 2012.
A spokesman from the Scentre Group, which operates Westfield Carindale, said they currently had no news for the wing of the centre.
However, Councillor for Chandler (LNP) Ryan Murphy said he would love to see something done with the site as soon as possible.
“Right now it’s not very appealing to pedestrians on the Winstanley St side because of the fences and boards up on the buildings. I would love to see it become like the Millennium Blvd side which is very appealing to pedestrians,” he said.
“It’s obvious that those buildings will have the be bulldozed when something is done so I would love to see them demolished soon so it can become a green space, park or public area, which is welcoming for residents.”
Cr Murphy also said in the future he would love to see something exciting that will attract shoppers to the site.
“I think maybe a pub or a high end dining type of place, would be great for that area,” he said.
