SMALL businesses on Brisbane’s bayside have a received a major boost on their road to recovery after the start of an Australian-first delivery service in the area.
LocalYou is a service which can bring groceries and essentials from multiple local retailers in a single delivery and has been exclusively trialled within a 5km radius of the Wynnum CBD.
The service is the brainchild of Australian ultra-fast electric vehicle charging network, Evie Networks.
Evie Networks head of marketing and sales, Geoff Brady, said the idea for LocalYou came about during the height of Australia’s COVID-19 lockdowns.

“Small retailers like corner stores, bakeries and newsagents aren’t necessarily suitable for services like UberEats or Deliveroo and can’t compete with the delivery platforms of the national supermarkets,” he said.
“They were suffering because COVID-19 forced their loyal customers to isolate and shop through different retailers and platforms.”
Customers pay a flat delivery fee of $5.99 per order and can choose products from several participating local businesses including the Wynnum Golf Club and the Wynnum West Bakery and Cafe.
Businesses with established online ordering in place can also access LocalYou’s delivery service.
Evie Networks leases electric vehicles to rideshare and delivery drivers, like Morningside resident Josh Bentley who is using his spare rideshare capacity to deliver for LocalYou.
“I get a job, the retailer gets a sale, and the customer gets a contactless and emission-free delivery,” he said.
Peta Garner from Wynnum Golf Club said LocalYou was an ideal way to get the club’s new frozen food offering to local residents.
“LocalYou gives us a cost-effective way to deliver our meals to local residents, with the lion’s share of the transaction coming directly to us,” she said.
Mr Brady said the service was looking for more local businesses to join, with the only restriction being that the service could not deliver alcohol or prescription medicines for licensing reasons.
