A PIECE of art, created by a group of Eight Mile Plains artists with a disability, is set to make waves at the SWELL Sculpture Festival this weekend.
It is the 14th year Multicap’s Monte Lupo artists have created a sculpture to be showcased at the outdoor gallery on the Gold Coast.
Monte Lupo artists used their “heads and hearts” to create something beautiful to be appreciated by people of all ages and walks of life.
‘The Seamstress’ was constructed from clay, fabric, timber, wool and metal and is a creative narrative about the desire of storytelling through decorative and domestic handicrafts,” said Kim Green, 24, from Rocklea, has been working as an artist for Monte Lupo for seven years.
She said she loved being part of the team that worked on the SWELL sculpture these past few months.
“It was a complete collaborative effort.
“I love there are new challenges every day (at Monte Lupo). It builds my skills for my career in the future and makes me able to adjust to new surrounds by being challenged daily.”
Monte Lupo provides creative supported employment opportunities for people with a disability.
It was established by Multicap in 1991 to provide a career path for people with a disability who wanted to be gainfully employed in an area encouraging creativity and artistic expression.
Monte Lupo artists gain a special sense of purpose, creative expression and engagement with the wider community.
SWELL inspires, amuses and uplifts more than 275,000 people who visit the free, family-friendly exhibition each year. It runs until September 23.
