Wynnum Manly Leagues Club’s $10m redevelopment to create 40 permanent jobs

THE dramatic transformation of a Brisbane leagues club is expected to inject more than $1.5 million into the community with the venue’s employment base to increase by 20 per cent.

Works on a $10 million revamp of the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club started last week with the impact of the redevelopment to be felt across the bayside community as more than 40 jobs will be created at the completion of the project.

“With a larger footprint means extra facilities and services available,” Wynnum Manly Leagues Club CEO Craig Thomas said.

“Our cafe is going to triple in size, new bars with additional products available, plus larger gaming room, a whole new entertainment destination on the bayside.

“To continue to have a customer service level that surpasses many hospitality venues, we will require more local staff to fulfil these roles with extensive training being given upon employment.”

Mr Thomas also said the club, which has contributed more than $5 million to community groups since 2015, would inject a large amount of money into the community through employment as well as using local suppliers would be.

“Firstly employment injection into the local community, in excess of $1.5 million in the first year,” he said.

“When we take into consideration the food and beverage suppliers, which will increase with demand, uses more suppliers on the bayside, which are locally owned, supporting the local business.

“The aim is to support the sustainability of rugby league in the Wynnum Manly area and increase our overall community contribution.”
