A mega auction has broken records in a southside Brisbane suburb chalking up sales of nearly $6.5 million and a massive 128 registered bidders.

Seven properties went under the hammer with young gun real estate agent Damian Cochrane selling all at one of the southside’s largest auctions this year.

Many bidders were parents wanting to buy into the catchment for one of the most-sought after schools in Brisbane, Mansfield State High School, where the auction was held.

Total value for the night was $6,430,000 and Mr Cochrane said he was delighted with the event, which was held at his alma mater.

WHAT SOLD

Lot 1. 139 Morialta Street, Mansfield $1,022,000

Lot 2. 72 Greenmeadow Road, Mansfield $870,000

Lot 3. 27 Novello Street, Mansfield $916,000

Lot 4. 5 Casmaria Street, Mansfield $782,000

Lot 5. 18 Justice Street, Wishart $840,000

Lot 6. 12 Tandanya Street, Mansfield $1,200,000

Lot 7. 47 Pareena Street, Mansfield $800,000

Mr Cochrane, 22, who graduated from Mansfield High five years ago, organised the sale at the school after huge interest in the properties, all within the school’s catchment area.

Recent house sales in the area have ranged from $800,000 to $1.2 million with top price going to 12 Tandanya St, Mansfield which sold for $1,200,000.

Lowest price went to 5 Casmaria St, Mansfield which sold for $782,000.

Mr Cochrane said much of the interest for residential property in the area came from families hoping to enrol at Mansfield High, the state’s second largest public high school with more than 3000 students.

The mega auction was held at Mansfield State High School where seven houses sold.

He said demand for property near the school was at unprecedented levels with hundreds of families already expressing interest across the seven properties.

“That’s why it made sense to hold the auction at night at the high school and people can walk to the event,” Mr Cochrane said.

“My ultimate goal was to have three or four properties in the area, however, my clients jumped at the chance to be a part of something special.

“The focus of the night is to showcase the main reason there is such high demand for Mansfield – it’s the school.

“I really wanted to give back to the community and the school and this was an ideal way.”

The school was unable to hold its usual fundraising events last year because of Covid so Mr Cochrane will donate $500 for each property that sells to the school’s P & C.

Proceeds from raffles for plumbing works, home styling, Storage King; DC Electrical; Compass Pest Control and gardening and cleaning vouchers will also go to the P & C.

Mansfield High P & C president Phil Reeves said he thought the concept of a mega auction was innovative “thinking outside the square” and would consider other similar events in the future.

Other standout properties were 72 Greenmeadow St, a low-set three bedroom, one bathroom home which sold for $870,000 and 27 Novello, which is need of an extreme renovation selling for $916,000.
