A popular Brisbane shopping village which has been the centrepiece of a bayside suburb for more than 60 years will go back to the future as it undergoes a $1.5 million transformation.
Manly Harbour Village’s shopping precinct will become ‘The Mall’ after a long-awaited facelift to the site is completed early next year.
The works to the village aimed at giving the existing character and structure a “refresh” will include refurbishments to the overall presentation of the shopping centre, enhance the ease of maintenance and rebranding to assist visitors locate traders within the centre.
“The building was originally known as The Manly Mall and the rebrand reflects this history,” Christine Farley from the Manly Harbour Village Management said.
“A substantial portion of the budget will be going towards unseen updates required for a building originally constructed in the 1960s, including roof replacement, asbestos removal and mechanical updates.
“While (the plans) are close to the deliverable product we are aiming for, there may be minor changes prior to completion of the project.
“There will also be some progress photos being shared on the Manly Harbour Village socials.”
The works on the centre will also include asbestos removal in common and external areas, ceiling replacement to common areas, upgraded mall lighting, roof replacement, flooring repairs and upgrades to common areas, cosmetic refresh of toilets, internal and external repainting, internal and external signage updates as well as carpark resurfacing and landscaping.
“We have been working closely with the engaged contractor to minimise impacts on businesses and customers, however the nature of the works means that there will be some interruptions,” Mrs Farley said.
“Key impacts that we are seeking to manage include the full shut down of shopping centre, except IGA, during asbestos removal, disconnection of electricity turned off during asbestos removal, disconnection of any services located on the roof during roof replacement works and reduced carparking available due to temporary construction yards and delivery access.”
Mrs Farley also said works would be done at night where possible or in stages to minimise impacts on businesses and customers.
“Demountable toilets will be installed for use while bathrooms are unavailable,” she said.
“Inspired Built are a local building company with strong experience in delivering shopping centre refurbishments.
“In Manly Harbour Village they delivered the recent upgrade works to the Manly Village IGA.”
