A young Brisbane drug addict was dramatically arrested outside Beenleigh Courthouse on Thursday after she allegedly participated in an armed robbery of two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, during a drug party in a Gold Coast apartment complex.
Carina Heights woman Macey Collins, 23, who Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday heard is on a suspended jail sentence and has multiple outstanding drug charges in Southport and Beenleigh, was charged with two counts of armed robbery in company and one count of entering premises with intent.
Police allege the gunpoint robbery occurred in company with Arundel man Ethan Geoffrey Patrick Shingles, 20, and an unidentified Surfers Paradise woman, 19, who faced court in Southport on Tuesday, in an apartment building on the Gold Coast Highway at Broadbeach about 1am on January 10.
The alleged armed robbery is said to have occurred in a “room full of people where there were a number of people using drugs”, the court heard, with police claiming three mobile phones and items of clothing were stolen.
Defence lawyer Shane Elliott told the court the police allegation is that a co-accused wielded the pistol used in the armed robbery, so the “criminality alleged (against Ms Collins) would put her as a party to a serious robbery where no-one was physically injured”.
However, although police allege that although neither teen was physically injured, one of them is claimed to have suffered a “very uncomfortable” experience when Ms Collins allegedly “placed her hands inside the victim’s top on her breasts, and inside her G-string across the victim’s vagina and anus” in an apparent frisk.
Following Ms Collins’ arrest on Thursday, police executed a search warrant on her Carina Heights address which allegedly uncovered two pistols and a small quantity of ammunition.
Mr Elliott told the court “identity will be an issue” in the case, which is why the Albert & Logan News has blurred Ms Collins’ face, so as not to influence any possible future juries who may be empaneled.
Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll granted the defendant bail on conditions including that she adhere to a curfew and submit to drug testing, although he opined he didn’t think the addicted Ms Collins could comply with the testing.
Her charges were adjourned to Southport Magistrates Court on February 2 to marry up with other outstanding matters.
Her co-accused Mr Shingles made no application for bail.
He has also been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing a drug utensil, in addition to the charges of armed robbery and entering premises.
His charges will be mentioned next on February 19.
