Traffic delays are grinding the gears of motorists with new statistics showing two of Queensland’s worst roads for congestion are located on Brisbane’s southside.
The Pacific Motorway (Eight Mile Plains to Loganholme, Exits 41 to 57) was ranked number one in the top 10 in the RACQ’s 2019 Red Spot Congestion Survey.
While Logan Rd (Miles Platting Rd and Padstow Rd intersection, and Kessels Rd and Mt Gravatt Capalaba Rd intersection) was ranked ninth in the list.

The major complaints about Logan Rd were it did not have enough lanes or capacity, the through traffic congestion or long queues, and congested right or left turns.
Many also complained of the poor synchronisation of traffic lights.
Out of 2500 survey participants, more than 450 roads across the state were nominated for causing unnecessary delays.
Fifty-one complaints were lodged about Logan Rd and 260 were put in for the Pacific Motorway, which also included the Varsity Lakes to Elanora stretch on the Gold Coast.
A southside resident wrote at length about the traffic woes of Miles Platting Rd and Logan Rd saying the lights were not synched along that stretch which caused further congestion.
The local labelled peak-hour as “ridiculous” and said motorists expected “long waits during peak times” but not at all hours of the day.
“I live off Padstow Rd and what should be a one to two minute drive from my house to the intersection is now a 15-20 minute delay due to traffic heading towards the city.
“Traffic has built up so bad my family and I have decided to move from a suburb we have loved for years, to a less congested area.”
“There’s no surprises the Pacific Motorway took out top of the list, with the stretch between Eight Mile Plains and Loganholme getting particular mention from our survey respondents,”
RACQ spokeswoman Lucinda Ross said.
“It’s used by a high volume of vehicles every day and acts as the only major route for freight and general traffic between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
“We’re calling for the section between the Gateway Motorway and Loganholme to be upgraded to eight lanes to provide more capacity, reduce incidents and slash travel times.”
Ms Ross said Logan Rd acted as “a key north-south route” that crossed several busy east-west transport corridors which linked with the Gateway Motorway, like Miles Platting Rd and Padstow Rd, and Kessels Rd and Mount Gravatt Capalaba Rd.
“We’d like additional lanes provided as well as see the Miles Platting, Padstow and Logan Roads intersection project reborn and its next stages delivered,” she said.
Ms Ross said the research would be made available to federal, state and local governments, and would be used by RACQ to help prioritise its advocacy work.
“It’s clear congestion is an issue that really grinds our gears,” she said.
“It costs us time and lost productivity, and that’s why we need to address it now.
“We’ll use this information to guide our policy and use it to lobby all tiers of for solutions to bottlenecked areas.”
