STATE LNP MP for Mansfield Ian Walker said his government would deliver $11 million in funding in conjunction with Brisbane City Council to build the Player St Connection in Upper Mount Gravatt.

The road upgrade would be designed to improve traffic flow on Kessels Rd by removing the set of traffic lights at Cremin St and by linking Player St to MacGregor St to create a four-way signalised intersection.

“This upgrade will improve safety and access for Upper Mt Gravatt residents,” Mr Walker said.

“It will also improve travel times for motorists along Kessels Rd, Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Rd and Logan Rd.”

Mr Walker said the upgrade should have been underway long ago.

“The Brisbane City Council put their share of funding on the table right away but Labor tried to delay the project at every turn,” Mr Walker said.

“Labor banned right turns into Cremin St in peak times, which meant residents couldn’t easily access their own streets.

“Adding insult to injury, they proposed no solution to get rid of the ban in the long term.”

ALP candidate for Mansfield Corrine McMillan said the Brisbane City Council was yet to provide the detailed design and cost estimate of the proposed Player Street extension.

“We will make an informed funding decision on the proposed Player Street extension once all the information is available,’’ she said.

“The modelling BCC used in preliminary designs also is being reviewed.

“I am committed to working with the community, with all available data and costing models to deliver the right outcome.’’

Cr Steven Huang (MacGregor) welcomed the LNP’s commitment .

“The Player Street connection will increase access for residents around their suburb and reduce congestion around Garden City,” Cr Huang said.

“It is vital that this project moves forward, which cannot happen without a State Government funding contribution to the project.

“With Ian Walker MP and the LNP’s funding commitment, this project could start as early as next year.”
