ALMOST 50 election signs have been stolen from Brisbane’s Deputy Lord Mayor in an “organised and concerted effort”.

LNP Chandler Ward Councillor Adrian Schrinner said a total of 47 signs had been removed from people’s front yards and around his ward in the past fortnight.

Cr Schrinner said it was the first time he’d experienced such a large-scale theft in his five council elections.

“After it started happening I started to make sure the signs were more secure,” Cr Schrinner said.

“(I put) eight screws in one sign and I came back the next day and it was gone.

“It’s an organised and concerted effort.

“It’s really disappointing.”

Cr Schrinner said he was concerned for his supporters who had offered their front yards to his campaign.

“Having people come out there, probably in the middle of the night, that’s pretty concerning,” Cr Schrinner said. “I’ve reported it to the local police and they are investigating.”

He said the signs cost between $5 and $14 and were bought by campaign supporters.

ALP Chandler Ward candidate Torryn Saker denied any part in the theft.

“The Deputy Mayor should brush up on his own council election signage laws before he starts waving the pointy finger of blame in my direction,” Mr Saker said.

“Photographs I’ve seen show Cr Schrinner’s corflutes screwed to power poles and other non-compliant locations. It’s no wonder his signs have been disappearing.

“Just another example of why we need new energy in City Hall.”

Cr Schrinner urged anyone with information to contact his office on 3407 1400.
