A Birkdale postman has been disqualified from driving after a “big night out” gave police a reading of more than double the legal limit when he was intercepted the next afternoon at a fast food drive through.
Joseph John Glanville, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of driving a motor vehicle while over the middle alcohol limit but not over the high alcohol limit.
Police Prosecutor Daniel Agresta said police intercepted Glanville’s vehicle at Capalaba on March 29 2024 at 3.25pm.
“He was driving through a fast food outlet when police intercepted to take a blood alcohol reading,” Sgt Agresta said.
“Police returned a reading of 0.108, quite a high reading.
“The defendant said he had consumed four cans of beer before driving, this is a concerning level of alcohol,” he said.
Glanville’s reading presented as more than double the legal limit.
“The defendant does have a criminal history, a mandatory driving disqualification is submitted,” Sgt Agresta said.
Glanville said he had a “very big night out” the night before.
“I had four beers the next day and thought I’d be all right to drive,” Glanville said.
“I was clearly still affected from the night before,” he said.
Glanville told the court he was a full time Australia Post employee.
“I’m a postman but they have moved me around because I can’t deliver at the moment because I don’t have a license,” he said.
Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan said she took Glanville’s guilty plea into consideration.
Glanville was disqualified from driving for three months and fined $650.
A conviction was not recorded.
